Chapter 6 | Once Upon A Starr

I coughed through the thick smoke. I heard Saffire growling at something. There was a giant bon fire surrounding her and a giant, red, fire dragon. And by fire dragon, I mean it was on fire. Literally. It was three times bigger then Saffire. I saw Skull trying to jump in the fight, but the fire blocked him.

I heard Saffire squeek like a hatchling, Help! I didn't know what to do. I backed up then charged through the fire. I felt my legs heating up and my arms boiling. I rolled on the ground after getting through, in case I was on fire. The fire dragon looked at me with its flaming eyes. Saffire looked at me and I realized she got new markings.

She had glowing lightning bolts on her scales. I hopped onto the saddle, having a risky idea. You are going to lose, Saffire. You have no help. You can't do anything because you are as weak as a hatchling so why are you even trying, I scolded to make her mad. It worked.

She stood on her back legs and roared about as loud as a volcano irruption. There was suddenly lightning and thunder, attacking the fire dragon. Saffire's eyes were glowing to and I was kind of freaking out. She was tiny, but she could make a storm.

Along with the lightning, came heavy rain. The fire dragon roared in pain, then flew away. Saffire spit out maybe 300 gallons of water onto the bon fire. I looked in amazement. I suddenly felt my raw limbs onto her scales and that's all I remembered.

I woke up next to the fire agian. I slowly collected my thoughts of what just happened. I ran to the stables and saw Saffire. You grew! I cried out in my head.

You're up early.

So are you.

You aren't healed.

I'm fine! I lied. I was actually crying deep down. My legs were raw, needing to be cleaned. And it was as if I walked through a battlefeild and got shot a dozen times. I yawned, exausted. Be careful. Saffire nodded and I saw Skull the same size as Saffire, standing proud and showing off that he grew.

I smiled, walking back in the house to the kitchen. After stealing a quick meal and washing off in a quarts bathroom I found, I went to the back garden again to collect my thoughts.

I layed down on the glowing water path, gazing at the bright, big stars and planets with the sun peeking out. I wondered what my mom would think of this. If only she knew...

I grabbed my phone out of my sweater pocket, texting my mom:

Me: Hi mom.

Mom: Why are you up so early? Are you okay?

Me: Yeah, couldn't sleep. And there's a time difference here now.

Mom: I miss you!

Me: I miss you too, how's Kotzebue?

Mom: Good, everyone misses you.

Mom: I have to go to work, Love you!

Me: Love you too. Byeee!

Mom: Bye.

I sighed, slowly drifting to sleep agian, before hearing wings flapping nearby. I stood up from my uncomfortable sleeping position, looking around. Saffire, quit playing games. At least not when theres danger around.

I looked in the slightly glowing forest and saw two giant, glowing yellow eyes. I jumped back. Umm, Sky? I hesitated nervously. It wasn't Saffire, was it? She has blue eyes. Then I heard Saffire's voice in my head. That's not me...Where are you?

Im in the garden at the other side of the house. The yellow eyes blinked.

Go to the stables, we will fly there into the outside. Do you see something?

Yes! If I leave, so will the creature. Just keep watch.

I blocked Saffire's thoughts from mine. I went out a glass door, slowly approaching the eyes. I couldn't help but sit on the mossy grass on the outside of the forest and wait for the giant creature to react. Who are you? Something said in my thoughts. I looked around.

I said who are you?

I looked back to the creature. There was no way I was getting out of this without catching on fire by another dragon. I'm a human being on this strange planet...where are you? I waited for a reply. I stood up, waiting for the yellow eyes.

Finally, the creature slowly walked up to me in the open. It was of course, a dragon. I looked at it's large, green scales that lead to antlers and yellow eyes that turned green. This was yet another giant dragon. Apparently all small dragons grew in Fall.

I noticed that this dragon had a saddle with a girl about my age riding. She had long, dirty blond hair and had a mix of green and hazel eyes that seemed dull as if she was tired or broken. She was wearing a casual pink shirt with ripped jeans and white shoes that had dirt on them.

The girl sighed, "What. Is. Your. Name."

I hesitated then opened my mouth to speak, "I'm Sk-"

An arrow buzzed in front of my face as I turned, leaving a peal on my ear. The dragon walked up to me while the girl forced me to sit behind her saddle. Saffire, now!

I looked behind the giant flapping wings to see Saffire following and a group of weapons that I'v never seen come out of the forest. I saw Skull follow Saffire with Braven holding onto Skull's tail.

Skull caught up with me as I jumped off of the green dragon, quietly panicking, not knowing what to do to survive the 40 foot drop.

Saffire zoomed in to rescue me in time before I landed in a tree. You could have gotten yourself killed!

I know that now, I just thought that if I jumped then I wouldn't die from whoever that was.

Saffire flew back up to Skull and Braven.

That person is not a kidnapper.

I looked around, Braven?

Yup.

And Saffire!

And Me!

Guys lets go!

I looked at Braven confused. Is that a thing? How is so many people in my head? And who was the last voice... I have a head ache!
