Shards

space
is not how I thought it was
with stars in every place your eyes could touch
and planets angled perfectly
everything aligned
galaxies swaying and shimmering light
sadly that is not the case

space
is not how I thought it was
it is pitch black
dark matter is all that it is
a sad endless horizon of nothing
it's quite lonely actually
when I expected the warm welcome of
moons and comets
i simply felt
the cold embrace of space
it was not warm
it was inevitably frozen
in both time and temperature

space
is not what I thought it was
they told me it was impossible to shatter
what was necessary
they lied
i know they did
the glass split
into shards
floating like balloons around me
space
took my breath away
