•I suppose you could say that was how I ended up in True Cross Academy's uniform the next day and squirming uncomfortably in the backseat of the school principal's limo.
"Hello, lovely, my name is Mephisto! Welcome to True Cross Academy, it is truly a pleasure to have you attend our school." Grinning, it almost seemed like his smile stretched from ear to ear.
"N-Nice to meet you too... my name is Hana Dietrich." Glancing around the odd-looking limo, I answered reluctantly.
Suddenly, his voice dropped to a low whisper and he leaned in, "It's not very often that we get an elf as a student."
My eyes widened and I glared at him, refusing to say anything while he simply threw his head back and chortled gleefully.
"A pretty one too!" He continued.
Needless to say, my first impression of him was not a very good one.
"Not to worry, your secret is safe with me. There are many other abnormal students at this school as well, so you can look forward to making some new friends, as your father had suggested," His endless talking continued.
"Are you close to my father?"
Humming, he thought for a while and twirled a strand of his blue hair, "I guess you can say that."
That was probably the reason he kept on mentioning things he shouldn't have known otherwise.
It didn't take long for time to pass in that bizarre limo due to his endless list of questions and remarks, most of which I didn't pay attention to. After a while, it was only then that my head snapped up, and it was because of the whole different world I saw from the limo's window.
"Amazing, isn't it? Welcome to True Cross Academy!" Gesturing the mass of buildings and the impressive-looking school, Mephisto chuckled.
"Is this a different island?"
"You could say that. The tunnel we just came out from was what connected this little city to Japan."
"H-How...?" I gazed out the window, lost in my thoughts.
"I am the school principal after all, I can do what I want here," He grinned mischeviously, "Just sit back and enjoy the view."
How did this exist, yet was never brought to the attention of the public? I knew that True Cross Academy was prestigious and well-known, but this was to a different extent.
Glancing at Mephisto from the side, I wondered who he really was. As he caught my stare, he simply smiled.
"Now then!" As we arrived in front of the school, he opened the door and shoved my bag into my arms before pushing me towards the entrance, "Enjoy your first day!"
Before I had the chance to ask him where to go and how to do anything, the door shut quickly and the car dashed away. With a heavy sigh, I turned around to gaze at the impressively massive school.
For most of the day, I walked around aimlessly and asked other students where to get to certain places. What I noticed was that, strangely enough, all the students here were normal, so where was this supposed school for Exorcists?
Since it was still my first day, I was introduced to the class and zoned out for most of the lessons. I didn't get the chance to make friends yet either, which would probably disappoint my father. Instead, I got alot of other strange remarks.
"Wow, your ears are so pointy. Are they naturally like that?"
"Your last name doesn't sound Japanese. Are you a foreigner?"
"How'd you get your hair to be such a light pink color? Did you dye it?"
And the list goes on.
Most of them I answered half-heartedly with a nervous laugh. When I told them my light-colored hair and pointy ears were natural due to genetics, they gave me strange looks and I fidgeted uncomfortably, adding that I was half-German. At this, they simply shrugged it off. Phew.
"What was Father thinking sending me to a place like this?" I thought out loud as I wandered around after school had ended.
A loud bark snapped me out of my thoughts and I turned around, noticing a small, white dog with a pink polka-dot bow around its neck.
"Follow me," The dog ordered.
"W-What the-"
"Forgive me, my dear, but the school's principal cannot simply walk around in broad daylight. Therefore, I have to use this form to direct you."
Frowning, I stepped closer, "...Mephisto?"
The dog smiled, "That's right."
"Um, where are we going?"
He tossed a key at me, which I flinched at and nearly dropped before catching it, "To cram school, of course. Your father sent you here to go to a school for Exorcists after all, right?"
"I see..."
It made sense now why everyone I saw at school earlier were just normal humans.
As the Mephisto dog led me to the entrance for this cram school, I followed obediently with slight curiousity for what it would be like.
"Now," He paused in front of a door, "use your key to open this."
Without replying, I pushed the key in and turned. Click. The door opened, revealing a completely different school from the previously grand one.
"This way~" Mephisto turned, trotting through endless hallways with doors that all seemed to look identical. When we reached one of the doors, he stopped and faced me.
"This is your stop. Have fun now!"
"What about the key?"
"It's yours. Keep it," He lifted a paw in what I assumed to be a wave before disappearing somewhere in the hallways. That man always had some way to continuously pop up and then magically disappear.
Gulping, I stared at the door in front of me. Slowly, I placed my hand on the handle and pushed it down, opening the door. I was met with several surprised faces and a young man with glasses who seemed the same age as me. He smiled warmly.
"Ah, it seems that our new student is here."
