The Angel's Deal

Chapter One

Lights in the heavens was shining brightly as two angels walked by, discussing about an important situation. They were both wearing white sparkling gowns and their beautiful wings were very spotless like snow.

"Increase your pace, Helena!" Angel Michael shouted.
"I am sorry, sir" she replied as she increased her pace.
"You have been appointed as the Guardian Angel of one Mr. Steve"
"Mr. Steve?"
"Yes, I know about your previous records, they are really poor!!"
"I am sorry, Sir" Helena replied bowing her head in disappointment.
"Mr. Steve's main guardian, Angel Walt has been selected for a special mission and you are the only angel available for this task. If you screw up, this could be your last guardianship assignment. You will never be called up again for guardianships."
"What!"
" Are you deaf?!"
" I am sorry, sir" she apologized once again.
" if Mr. Steve don't make it to heaven, you won't be called up again."

There was silence for a moment. Helena paused and imagined living as a normal Angel. It was not bad though but she loved being a guardian angel.

" Do you understand!! "
" Yes Sir!! "
" Your job starts now"
" OK sir, thanks for the appointment " Helena ended the conversation and flew down to earth for the assignment

There was a heavy rain in the morning, this caused a traffic jam in the main road and Steve was late for work. He sat down in the taxi looking frustrated.

" I could lose my job!" he shouted.
" keep quiet, it is not my fault sir" The driver said pointing at the road, showing Steve the traffic.

Steve ignored the driver and kept looking out the window.

" What the hell am I going to do" he thought.

Then he saw a man in a black rain coat on a bike.

"Yes!!!" he shouted.

He quickly paid the driver, grabed his bag and umbrella and ran towards the bike man.

" excuse me, bro, please take me to GYJ company "
" And why would I do that, bro?" the bike man replied in a funny manner.

Steve signed and brought out some money from his pocket.

" I will pay you just take me there " Steve said showing the man some cash.

The man smiled deviously.

" now you are talking, bro" The man replied, saying 'bro' in a funny way.
"hop in" he added.

Steve hurrily sat on the bike and they drove through the traffic jam. It was not long before they arrived at the company. Steve paid the bike guy and rushed into the company. He was one hour late! and the last person he wanted to see was the manager.

" Steve!!" Rose called out as she spotted Steve rushing in.

Rose was Steve's crush in the company. They had worked together for more than a year even though Rose had been in the company earlier than Steve. She was also the Manager's Secretary.

"Steve!" Rose called out again.

Steve ignored her and rushed into the elevator. After hitting the button for the 10th floor, he exhaled deeply.

"How can she call my name like that, does she want to get me fired." he thought as the elevator moved.

He was the only one in the lift at the moment and he was glad he did not meet the irritating manager.

"Thank heavens I didn't meet that foolish manager. Today must be my lucky day" he said smiling.

Just then the bell rang and the elevator opened. The face he saw was the manager's face!! The man was not smiling in his blue suit, he looked like an angry gorilla. Steve quickly covered his face with his bag and rushed out of the elevator.

" Where do you think you are running to, Steve?" The manager asked rhetorically.

Steve paused as if he was controlled by a remote control. Then he slowly turned to the manager.

"Oh sir, I didn't see you, good morning " Steve replied trying to act normal.
"What do you think you are doing?"
"It is a lovely morning and I was greeting you, sir"
"You came late again, Steve"
"No sir I came from Mark's office. We are working on the project."

Suddenly, Mark appeared behind Steve.

"hey, Steve, What's up" he said patting Steve's back.
"Mark has been with me since morning, Steve. Do you think I am joking with you!!?"
" I am sorry sir" Steve apologised
" you think you can do whatever you like, you always miss the early clients, you haven't even submitted last three months records!!"
" I am sorry sir" Steve apologised again.
" sorry for yourself! If you mess up again I will make sure you lose your job"
" I won't mess up again sir" Steve assured the manager.
"get out of my sight, before I kill somebody!!!" the manager shouted.

Steve quickly ran to his office and shut the door. He was breathing heavily.

"Today is really my lucky day" he said aloud.

After a while Mark entered the office. Mark was Steve's closest friend. They had know each other for about five years. Steve tells Mark most of his secrets even about having a crush on Rose. They mostly do things together like eat, work, gym, and so on. They were really close buddies.

" you got lucky today, Steve "
" Yeah, I got to be careful "

Mark sat on the chair and placed his legs on Steve's table.

" what the hell Mark!! "
" what? " Mark asked pretending not to know the problem.
" get you stinking legs of my table "

Mark just kept whistling. Steve swiftly sprang up from his seat and started chasing Mark who began to run round the table.

"if I catch you I will strangle you" Steve said angrily.
" thank God you said if" Mark teased him.

The chase lasted for few minutes before Steve finally caught Mark.

" calm down Steve, no need to strangle me"
" no I need to do that"
" I have good news " Mark said smiling and raising his eye brows.
" but if you strangle me you won't know the news" he continued.

Steve released his grip on Mark's suit and sat back on his seat.

" so what's the good news?" He asked curiously.

Mark straightened his suit then he looked at Steve and smiled.

" The good news is that Jesus is lord!" he replied as he escaped from Steve's office.
" what the hell !!!" Steve shouted as he sprang up to chase Mark but Mark escaped before Steve could even make another move.

Steve smiled at Mark's act and sat back on his seat.

" he got me this time" he chuckled.

Just then his mobile phone rang. He brought it out of his pocket and checked the caller. It was his mum. He quickly swiped the green button.

"hello mum" he greeted.
" is this Steve, Mary's son?" a strange voice replied
"yes, what happened!?, who is this?" Steve answered out loud as he sprang up from his seat.
" she has been rushed to the hospital after she slumped on the sidewalk"
" what!!, which hospital? "
" New Hope, come quickly"
" yes, yes" Steve said and he ended the call.

Steve stood for some seconds. Different bad thoughts came to his brain. He was practically shivering. His mum was the only family he had left. He was getting frightened. He quickly grabbed only his umbrella and went straight to the manager's office to seek for permission.
