The Angel's Deal

Chapter Two

The manager's office was on the 12th floor. Steve rushed to the elevator and kept on pushing the button. For Steve a second seems like 30 minutes. He could not wait for the lift. He quickly rushed to the stairs.

" God help me, Jesus save me" he kept saying as he raced upstairs, tripping most of the time.

When he reached the 12th floor he hurried straight to the manager's office. He didn't even knock. He just barged into the office like it was his own. The manager had important visitors at the moment. One was called Han, he was a major share holder in the company and he brought three renowned business men who were planning on investing in the company.

" What the hell is this?" The manager, Lucky said.
" Is this how your workers behave?" Ritchie asked, he was a large scale business owner and was very popular in the town.

Steve ignored the attention and went to Lucky's table.

" sir I need to see my mum" he said placing his hands on Lucky's table. " it is very urgent " he added, breathing heavily.

Lucky took a deep breath then he shook his head in annoyance.

" You interrupted my negotiations just to see your mum" he said angrily almost shouting.
" mummy's pet" Han teased Steve. The rest of the visitors started laughing.
" My mum was rushed to the hospital, I need some days off, please."
" Don't you know, you should knock before you enter. You didn't even show any respect for my guests."
" I am sorry, sir, I was really scared infact I am really scared"

Lucky paused and glared at Steve like a starving lion.

" Sir you are killing my time" Steve said fixing his eyes fearlessly at Lucky's glare.
"You can go but come back here tomorrow don't forget this is not my company" Lucky finally said bending his head and looking depressed.
" what do you mean sir"
" I trying to say that I am not the only one who can fire you"
"But sir I said days not day"
"get out of my office before I change my mind, you rascal!!!" Lucky shouted angrily as he gripped his pen as if he wanted to kill Steve.

Steve quickly ran out of the office and went to the elevator. He heart was calm now but he was still a little scared.
When the lift stopped, he quickly rushed out and accidentally bumped into Rose.

" You should stop rushing, Steve" She said angrily.
"Sorry, Rose, got many things going in my head right now"
" And you totally ignored me this morning" she said glaring at him.
" about that, I came late and you were just screaming my name as if I was a superstar or something, do you want to get me fired!"
" sorry but I just wanted to warn you that manager Lucky was on the 10th floor, dummy."
"oh, you should have chased me and stopped me, dummy" Steve said annoyingly and making a funny face at Rose.
" God!!, did you just call me dummy?" she said, getting angry and putting her hands on her waist as if she was about to fight.

Steve shook his head and walked away.

" See you tomorrow, Rose" he said as he went.

Rose just stood still, looking at him as the walked out of the company.

" Crazy guy, he is not even taking this job serious and he is afraid of getting fired" she said, shaking her head in pity and she turned to enter the elevator. It had moved back up!!!

" damn that dumb idiot " she said out loud.

Steve arrived at New Hope hospital at noon. The doctor was even expecting him, maybe because of the bill.

" Mr. Steve, come to my office " Jack, the doctor ordered.

Steve followed the doctor to his office.

" You can sit down, please." Jack said politely. Steve quickly sat down.

The office was well furnished with pictures. It has an air condition with a small refrigerator and a plastic skeleton model which looked scary to Steve.

" Is the news so bad, doctor?" Steve asked clenching his fists.
" did you expect good news? Hey, we are not in a Church, this is a Hospital." Jack said indifferently.
" OK, so what is the problem? "
" the woman is your mum, right?"
" yes sir, what is wrong?"
" She has a weak heart, and is likely to get a heart attack if she is not properly taking care of "
" what should I do doctor?"
" I propose you register her in the New Hope Heart program, it will help a lot but only one problem "
" what is it ? Doctor. " Steve asked looking very serious.
" it is not for free, Mr. Steve. You should be asking how much" Jack said trying to lighten scary mood of the office.
" so how much then "
" Just ten thousand, for a month "
" What?!! It is not just ten thousand, it is not just, it is much, you should have said the huge sum of ten thousand, God!!, I am not a bank you know. "
" This is the only place you can get this offer so think about it, the earlier the better, Steve. "
" okay doctor but you have to slash the price or something."
" I have an operation in the next 30 minutes so you can leave"

Before Steve left the hospital he went to his mum's hospital room. She was sound asleep. He was told he could wake her but he did not want to bother her. He just sat beside her, recalling beautiful memories with her. He decided to register her for the program in the next two days.

The next day, Steve was actually very early to work. It surprised everyone, he walked majestically in his grey suit, holding his bag with his left hand. He entered his office to start work just to find someone in the office. The office was totally rearranged.

" who the hell are you and what the hell did you do my office " Steve said angrily as he smacked his right palm.

The man just glanced at Steve and continued typing on his laptop. Steve took a deep breath as if he was a dragon and closed the laptop.

" what are you doing in my office " he asked again.

The man smiled at Steve.

" Why don't you ask Mr. Lucky. I was assigned to work here so I don't know much, please can I continue what I was doing "

Steve was dumbfounded. He quickly rushed to Lucky's office, he did not even use the elevator. He barged into Lucky's office like he did before. Lucky was with only Han this time.

" what the hell is going on sir, I saw someone in my office? "
" why can't you respect people's privacy. " Lucky said angrily.
" I am sorry, I really want to know what that idiot is doing in my office." Steve said panting since he practically ran to Lucky's office.
