The pack is growing.
The unexplainable animal attacks.
The paw prints that mysteriously disappear.
They are here, and its not a small pack.
Its a large one.
A pack that could rip this whole city apart if they wanted to.
A pack that could kill the humans that have lived their whole life untouched.
A pack that could eliminate the few hunters that protect this city.
But I'm not letting that happen.
They are not going to kill me, Isabella Clifford or my brother or my uncle or any of the other hunters.
We will get to them first.
I know we will.
But how?
They are all over the city. No one knows who is a human and who is a wolf on a normal lunar day.
But when it is a full moon the wolfs become evident. They get more agitated, the smoothness of their face roughens, their breathing speeds up. All on the day of a full moon.
But an alfa is different. An alfa can disguise their inner wolf in a way that not even a professional hunter can detect. They can control their anger, they can control their movements, they can control their breathing but worst of all they can control their scent.
Every werewolf gives out a special scent on the day of a full moon. Their inner wolf is howling and the scent of it is coming out with it. The scent is undetectable by a human, but a trained hunter can smell it. The easiest wolf to detect is an omega. An omega is a lone wolf. A wolf without a pack. A wolf that is unable to disguise their scent.
The beta is more difficult. An alfa can help a beta disguise their scent, but cannot disguise it completely. The scent always lingers in the air around them.
But this "smell" is only produced during the 24 hours before a full moon. Thats when hunters kill the most wolves. The short time period before a full moon.
The next full moon is in 3 days and this one is going to be a bad one. The pack that has been around for a few months have increased. There are more betas.
The only way to get rid of these wolfs is by finding the alfa. If the alfa is caught and killed the betas must find a new alfa and will leave the city's borders to find one.
If the pack keeps growing at this speed there are too many betas to kill. We must find the alfa. But this alfa is experienced. He has hid his pack well.
I have been out searching for a possible place they might be temporarily living in, but it seems that they keep moving. They are never the same place for more than two weeks.
This alfa is smart, but I'm smarter.
I'll know i'll find him.
I open the front door of my uncle's house and step into the cold white building. I slide my boots off and hang my jacket up very quickly and quietly.
"Where have you been?" I hear a low voice grumble from the living room.
"Out?" I say, obviously not very convinced with my own words.
"It's 2.30 in the morning! Why were you out hunting?" My uncle yelled at me, nearing me with every step he took.
"Nothing happened, I'm okay" I measured him, trying to walk past him to get to my room.
"Yeah well something could have happened. Are you crazy? You know the wolfs have an advantage at night" he kept yelling at me.
"I don't understand what the big deal is. I have been out hunting in the dark before why can't I now?" I asked, trying to pass him to head up to my room.
"That was when the pack was smaller. The pack is 10x bigger now and more dangerous" he states, making me roll my eyes at him, before closing the door in his face.
"You are not allowed to go out hunting for a month, you are grounded" He shouts from the other side of the door.
This caught my attention.
I trotted over to the door and swung it open.
"You can't do that!" I yelled at him.
I used to hate going out hunting. I thought it was wrong to kill a person. That was before I realised they aren't like us. They aren't people. They are beasts. Beasts that must be taken care of. Beasts that must disappear out of our lives.
"Yes I can. It will make you focus more on your school work anyways" he said, turning around and heading back to his room.
"You can't stop me from doing what I'm born to do" I yelled back at him.
I didn't get a response.
I kicked the wall next to my bedroom door hard and whimpered when the flesh of my foot hit against the hard paint-covered bricks of the wall.
"Grounded again?" I heard my brother, Michael, say from behind me.
I turned to face him, a frown imprinted on my face.
"I don't understand why, I mean I'm 17, I'm old enough to go out hunting by myself" I breathed out, crossing my arms in the process.
"Well he did say you weren't allowed to yesterday night, yet you still go and do it" he shook his head.
"Oh shut up, if you were actually good at hunting you would do the same" I stated, turning around and slightly limping back to my room.
"I'm better than you" he stated, slightly frustrated by my words.
"Sure you are" I teased closing the door to my room and hoping back to my bed.
I threw my clothes off, making them land on a stack of school work I still need to do.
I groaned loudly of frustration and searched for my pyjama shirt, finding it shortly after on my desk chair.
It doesn't matter what my uncle says, I'm going out hunting after school tomorrow.
I'm going to find the alfa and I'm going to kill him.
