When I open my eyes, all I see is darkness. It takes a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the little light that I have in my room. I turn to my left and pick up my phone, switching it on. The light blinds me for a moment and I let out a quiet groan in protest. I then see the dreaded time and I groan even louder. It's 5:59 am, and my alarm is about to go off in three....two... one. Beep, beep, beep.

I quickly unlock my phone, desperate to stop what I believe to be the most annoying sound in the world.

"CASSIE, YOU'RE GONNA BE LATE. GET UP NOW."

Maybe after that.

I sit up and rub my eyes, trying to motivate myself to get up. I was failing miserably.

"Mum's gonna be pissed if you don't hurry your ass up and get ready."

I look up to see Jack poking his head into my room, completely dressed of course and ready to leave.

"Don't worry", I respond, "I have time."

He rolls his eyes and leaves me to get ready, not believing a word I just said.

I decide that he's right and get up out of bed. I head to the bathroom that is down the hall from my room. From the sound of shitty technomusic coming from under the door, I can tell Mason is in the there.

"COME ON MASON. HURRY UP," I say whilst banging the door, "I NEED TO SHOWER."

The door opens up enough for Mason to stick out his stupid egotistic face to say, "You can't rush perfection."

I roll my eyes and push past him.

"Hey what's your problem, " he says, "I have to look good for the ladies. I don't want to disappoint anyone."

"You always disappoint people, fixing your hair won't change that" I respond.

"Ouch, a stab right to the heart" he says as he clutches his chest, pretending he could collapse to the ground at any moment.

"Out you twat, I need to get ready" I say as I shove him out of the bathroom.

"Alright, alright I'm going weirdo" he says, finally leaving the bathroom.

I lock the door and go to turn the shower on, but of course there's no hot water.

"Shit," I mutter "selfish prick took all the water."

I skip the shower and just brush my teeth. When I'm done I take a look in the mirror, weighing the decision of whether or not to put on makeup. As usual I go with the latter.

I run back to my room and quickly throw on some jeans, a hoodie, and sneakers. Before I head downstairs I brush my hair in an effort to make it look less like a birds nest and more like my normal blonde shamble. Again I was not succeeding.

"CASSIE, IF YOU'RE NOT DOWN HERE IN ONE MINUTE YOU'RE GONNA GET IT" I hear my mum say from downstairs.

She always threatens me by saying that I'm "gonna get it", and still with my sixteen years of experience on this earth, I have absolutely no idea what she means, but I don't think I want to find out.

I head down stairs to the kitchen, and am greeted by the tangy smell of orange juice. My dad and two brothers are sitting at the table with my mum in the kitchen making a cup of coffee.

I take a seat next to Dad with the boys sitting across from me, and quickly start wolfing down a bowl of cereal. When I look up, I see Mason load his spoon up with cornflakes and launch them at Jack. Without looking up from his book, Jack swiftly kicks the legs of Mason's chair out from under him, and a moment later he crashes to the floor. I almost choke on my cereal from laughing.
