I walk out the front door and slam it shut. It was pouring rain outside, but I didn't care, the sound of the rain drowned out the sound of my mother and step fighting again. I sigh and sit on the porch. My knees pulled to my chest, I rest my chin on the top of them. Why did mom have to marry that...that d***?! I sigh again. If I wanted to find my own place I would, but I can't just leave mom with that a**hole. I sigh again. To think the well-known, best selling, electronic making family was so harsh to each other at home...sometimes I wish I was just born into a commoner's family, less pressure, more freedom. I sigh yet again. But that would mean I wouldn't have had my mother now, and I can't imagine life without her. She's my best friend. I look out into the soaked yard before me. The rain became lesser than a moment before, becoming a light sprinkle. I hear what sounds like a loud smack and quickly get up. "Ack! How dare you! Let me go! What are you doing?!" I hear my mother scream out, fearing the worse, I jump up, and run inside. Sure enough, my step had a fist full of her shirt, while his hand was raised. Mother's lip was busted and a bit of blood was trickling from it. My Red eyes narrow and before I knew it, I was football tackling him. He flies backwards and falls onto one of our wooden chairs, which breaks from the force of his hit, I follow and jump onto him, punching his face repeatedly. How dare he put his hands on her! When I was younger, mother enrolled me in Martial Arts classes, since we had been on our own for most of my lifespan, and her having to work, would leave me alone for hours on end. My real father had abandoned my mother when he found out she was pregnant, saying she was useless to him now. He was just a deadbeat who wanted my mother for her looks. "Kagami...what the hell is wrong with you?!" Mom screams at me and pulls me off of him. I turn my head towards her. "What do you mean what's wrong with me? He was about to hit you again!" I yell as she lets me go. "I had it under control!" She screams with tears in her eyes and fists clenched at her sides. "Didn't look it to me! By the way you're welcome for stopping him." I say crossing my arms over my chest now annoyed. "You little b****, how dare yo--" I cut him off. "Get your a** up, and get the hell out of my house. You come anywhere near my mother or anyone in my family again, I'll have you arrested." I say glaring at my step who had one eye swollen shut, while his lip and nose was bloodied. He narrows his one good eye, wipes at the blood coming from his nose, gets up, and looks towards me. "This isn't over! You just wait!" He says and stomps out of the house, with a final slam of the door. The skidding of car tires comes next before everything is silent again. I narrow my eyes slightly before looking towards mother, who was still in the same place she had been before. I look at her lip again, sigh, and start to reach for her wrist. She slaps my hand away. "Don't touch me!" She says. I roll my eyes, snatch her hand, and practically drag her into the kitchen, due to her resisting. Why the hell is she mad at me for?! He's the one she should be mad at! I set her on one of the chairs. "Quit being stubborn and don't move. I'm going to get you some ice." I say and walk towards the freezer. Grabbing a liquid icepack, I wrap it with a towel, and walk back to her. I reach for her chin but she snaps her head away. I sigh frustrated and grab her chin, facing her towards me. Once she was, I gently place the liquid icepack to her bottom lip. She flinched but stays still. My right hand throbbed but I ignore it, and focused on mom. "Be mad at me all you want, I don't care." I say to her as she glared at me in silence. "But do not think of him as a victim. You are the victim, he is the one who hit you. Real men don't hit women, no matter how mad they are. The boys that do hit women are nothing but cowards." I say. Tears play at the corners of her eyes, and I can't help but pull her to me in a hug. The scene I had witnessed just a few minutes earlier played in my head, making me tighten my grip. No one messes with my family. Mom sobs into my shoulder. "Shhh...you're alright." I say as my own tears fall down my cheeks as I blink. No one...
A few weeks later...
I look at the building before me. So, this is Ouran Academy... I squeeze my wrapped hand as much as I could without causing pain. Originally, mom, the step, and I had moved here from Akita. I was suppose to be starting a couple weeks back, but due to the incident with the now Ex-step, I had stayed home at my mother's request, due to my hand being messed up from punching him. The memory of what he'd done still burned through my mind, making anger boil within me. I lock my jaw. Stop thinking about it! I push back the rage and the memory, and walk towards the entrance doors. What's done is done, time to move on.
