It was a perfectly normal day on planet earth. Duncan Dorney was drinking tea in his perfectly normal kitchen. Suddenly, there was a loud knock on his perfectly normal front door. Opening the door, he was surprised to see that there was nobody there; his perfectly normal life was never troubled by pranksters! He looked around and was startled to see a very conspicuous black and red car with its windows rolled down stopped in the middle of the usually calm and perfectly normal street. The driver of the mysterious car honked the horn. Duncan squinted into the early morning sunshine, trying to see who the shadow-cloaked driver was. As he did so, clouds began chasing each other across the sky...

"Excuse me!"

Called a female voice that sounded like a bubbling brook on a summer day.

"Would you mind helping me with my car for a moment?"

Always the gentleman, Duncan walked to investigate what was wrong with the car; his curiosity for the beautiful lady was heightened by his interest in the sleek, streamlined and shiny car. Peering into the vehicle, Duncan saw an stunningly gorgeous creature with long blonde hair and striking violet eyes staring at him. He marvelled at her seemingly inhuman beauty.

"What's wrong with your car?

asked Duncan.

"The passenger window is stuck and I am getting dreadfully cold,"

the lady said. She had an exotic accent; Duncan wondered (but didn't dare ask) where she came from before politely asking if he could sit in the car momentarily to fix the window. Smiling widely, the woman said that he most certainly could...

However, the second that Duncan was seated in the car, the door slammed itself shut and the woman stamped on the accelerator.

"What are you doing!?"

roared Duncan

"I have to get to work!"

Duncan had a perfectly normal job in the city with a perfectly normal accountants firm.

"Already sorted!"

said the creature - for Duncan refused to believe that she was human as she was driving at 200 miles per hour without looking at the road.

"you're on sick leave!"

she continued in her sing-song voice which reminded Duncan of wind chimes in the breeze. Becoming increasingly agitated, Duncan shouted

"But where are you taking me!?"

He had terrible visions of what the woman could possibly want...

Outside, the weather abruptly made a turn for the worse. Duncan shivered as he heard a rumble of thunder.

Not long after, there was a loud 'thunk' from the engine of the car. Duncan, too scared too speak, simply gripped his seat tighter as the perfectly normal (yet luxurious) car transformed into an overly extravagant spaceship! The plush leather seats turned into couches, the complicated dashboard turned into an even more confusing control panel and to top it all, the mysterious lady morphed into a violet and gold mist, which appeared to act like an intelligent being; sweeping around and around and around and around...

Duncan began to feel sleepy when suddenly, the swirling mist turned into a golden robot.

"Puny human,"

the robot said scornfully,

"You are no use to me!"

it stabbed at the control panel, muttering about how the standard of earthling had gone down over the last few centuries.

Just as Duncan was beginning to come to terms with his predicament, the spaceship lurched to a halt and began descending to a blue and green planet below.

"Is this Earth?"

Duncan managed to stutter.

"No."

Snapped the robot that Duncan had now concluded was an alien.

"Its name is 'Water'. A much more suitable name for a 70% water planet similar to your own."

"But it looks exactly like Earth!"

"It is the parallel equivalent of your inaccurately named planet"

After this, Duncan decided to hold his tongue and keep quiet.

Once the ship had landed on the planet, a swarm of gossiping humanoid creatures came rushing up to Duncan and the robot.

"This is a grumpy earthling"

said the robot in a bored monotone.

"Dispose of him."

At this, Duncan panicked and tried to run but found himself frozen in place by a shimmering force field.

"We will release you if you come with us quietly."

said a life-form.

"OK"

said Duncan, to scared to say any more.

Duncan was marched to what appeared to be a bright pink and yellow prison.

"What is this place?"

he asked.

"This is a happiness inducing cell."

said the being.

"If you wish to live here for long then you must lose the 'attitude' so to speak."

"But why can't I go back to Earth?"

"Because our great ruler has commanded that you stay here. You met her on the way here."

"You mean the pretty-lady-purple-mist-odd-robot-thing that kidnapped me?"

"We prefer not to say 'kidnapped' but yes, that was her."

"And what is all this 'Be happy' and 'Don't be rude and grumpy' business?"

"Why, didn't you know, Water is famed for its incredibly happy occupants - it would never do to have an Unhappy One among us!"

Duncan was too confused to say any more.

Two Weeks Later...

Duncan scowled at the 'Water inhabitant who brought in his daily 'rations' of chocolate cake, jelly and ice-cream. The food was the only good thing here, though it did not cheer him up enough to smile - that was the one thing he refused to do but was the one thing that the great ruler said he must do before being considered for release.

"Enjoy this meal."

said the humanoid

"It might be your last...
