*Coming December 24th*
** Sneak Peek**
Aurelia's POV
"Why are y'all taking me to school? My brother could have driven me."
"Yes, he could have. The thing is, he wouldn't," my best friend, Sean says as he turns onto another road.
"He would've if I asked." There was silence in the car as I looked to my other best friend, Mallory, for help. She put her hands up in surrender.
"Hey, I'm with Sean on this. He wouldn't have driven you in a million years and you know that." I sighed in response and slumped down more in my seat.
If they were going to drag me to the car couldn't they at least given me shotgun?
But whatever. Sean turned the radio up, singing along to some cheap rap song as Mallory whacked him in his arm. I tensed, hoping he was a good enough driver to not swerve.
Which he didn't. The thing about Sean is, he's ripped.
Man, that's weird to say.
But he is. He's got some muscles, and he's been the strongest guy in our grade since we all became friends in sixth grade. He didn't like to brag about it, he often found it weird himself.
Yep, these are my friends. The head cheerleader, the popular guy, and the nerd. We all became friends in sixth grade like I said earlier. Well, I shouldn't say we all. It went more like this:
I came from an elementary school to a middle school. At the middle school from another elementary school was Mal and Sean. They were already friends.
Mallory quickly befriended me and we became inseparable. At this sudden friendship, Sean was kinda forced to get used to me. We became pretty close at the beginning of seventh grade, and have been ever since. But this was before our images had been made, of course.
Sean pulled into the school as Mallory unbuckled, eagerly awaiting to get out of his jeep and go to class, only to leave class. I slowly adjusted myself to sit upright and grabbed my bags carefully.
Sean parked in his normal spot, and Mallory helped him turn off his radio and air, and slightly crack the windows so the car wouldn't get as hot.
Before I continue, I better note that Sean and Mallory aren't dating. They've been best friends for a long time, and it's a common mistake that's made. It's been said or asked so many times, they don't even react when someone mentions it. They're siblings, sorta. It's hard to explain.
After finishing her "chores," Mallory hopped out of the car and waited for me. I was out by the time Sean was pulling out the keys, getting out, and locking his jeep. We walked in all together, me in the middle. As soon as we walked in the doors, Sean took an immediate left to the locker rooms.
"Don't forget to pick me up after practice!!" Mallory yelled after him. "Sean!" When he didn't pay any attention to either statement, she mumbled, "I'll text him in class. He'll be on his phone then anyways." She grabbed Chapstick from her purse and put a little on before braving the hallways.
I stuck by her side as we weaved in and out of friends and couples, all trying to see what happened over the weekend or get answers for homework. Finally we reached our lockers, only one in between ours (Sean's locker). We hadn't arranged it like this, it just... happened.
Sean never puts anything in his locker, he just carries a mess of binders or puts things in his athletic locker (he plays center on the football team). Which means we rarely see him at locker breaks. We only have one class all together, but some of us also have classes with one other person.
We all have first period together. The only thing is, we aren't friends in public. Once our images were made, I made Sean and Mallory promise not to be friends with me. They were still friends in public, though.
Once I started getting bullied, it was harder and harder to get them off my back. They wanted to stand up for me and be my best friends in public, too. I had to tell them to just not bully me, but to not do anything about it.
So before Mal was ready, I slammed my locker and tried to speed away to our first period and sit in the back like usual. She caught me, but didn't have everything so just yelled at me.
"Aurelia! Eli!!!" She yelled in my direction, pausing from trying to find her binder. I pretended like I didn't hear her, and just walked away. Knowing her she probably sighed and went back to finding her binder.
Ten minutes later she came running in a few seconds before the bell. Sean came in after her and took his seat behind her. They talked for a few seconds while the announcements were on.
I longed to be able to sit over there with them without ruining their reputation forever. I heard the usual snickers at me, snapping me out of my trance. Mallory gave me a soft smile before turning to the board.
