Living with the Devil

In the coming three days he had wandered around Tokyo, soon finding himself in one of many residential areas. He'd decided to ditch the buggy, and as such only carried and held up a sign that said 'Will work for room and board'.

Minutes later from one of the houses across the street, Reina stepped outside though for now she seemed to not have noticed the man as she was searching her schoolbag for something, whilst locking the door with the other hand without even watching the keys.

Sometimes she did feel like she was turning into some kind of robot... nothing but school, chores around the house, studying and the occasional outing with her friends. She'd had a few scattered dates every now and then, but guys just didn't seem to like something about her, all of them having dumped her after just a couple of weeks or a few days, for other girls. Maybe she was too well behaved...? After all, it seemed guys always preferred girls who were ready to sleep with them on their first date, whereas she wanted to wait a while and get to know that guy first. Shrugging lightly to herself she now threw the keys in the bag and turned to face the street.

Finally, after descending the three steps from her door onto the sidewalk, she raised her gaze and stopped in her tracks upon seeing him. The man halted when he saw her in the corner of his gaze. Slowly turning, he raised the sign for her to see, giving a gentle smile. There was, of course, something he would have to do, which was to avoid suspicion... that meant that one person around him would have to be left alive until he was just about to go back. Then he could tempt her, take her and break her. A soul such as that girl's, after all, would be worth much to the Lord of Hell. Certainly a fitting final gift... final in regards to that mission, anyway.

Slightly smiling she now crossed the street rather than head for college. At least the man wanted to change his life, rather than comply with his situation. Maybe she could help him... as long as her parents didn't know.

"I'm glad to see you're alright."

She then paused for a moment, pondering on a question.

"I see you're looking for work. What can you do? Have you worked before?"

"I used to have a job... I can do house cleaning, cooking, and computer programming..."

He grinned to her. Fortunately, he had a name by now, since a couple of the girls he'd slain had asked for one, out of some human curiosity... perhaps they'd wanted to get to know him, but he didn't want to be close to humans. They were such fragile, illogical things. Even the ones who seemed strong, were really just hollow shells of individuals who were hiding their glaring weaknesses.

"I think one of my friends' father is looking to hire these days for his company. She said they need someone who's sort of a computer nerd. The schedule isn't overloading and he pays well, if you'd be interested."

She knew, of course what the next thing she needed to say was. There was absolutely no way he could get a job without a place to stay and without looking decent. But she wasn't going to make that offer if he wasn't going to accept the job first.

"When can I meet him?"

What purpose was there to those things that humans did? They and all they did were to eventually crumble to dust, anyway. He'd never understand, but it wasn't his place to try to understand... it was his place to tempt them, whether it was by lust, greed, wrath, or sorrow and ruin them. Those were, after all, the fastest paths to death and ultimately damnation.

"Well... after we get you a place to stay and some new clothes."

She now fell silent again, her shyness seemingly taking over her.

"Um... well you can stay with me if you want to. I moved here alone, due to college."

She did have to hope she wasn't blushing, because she didn't even want to imagine what he'd think of that.
