School went on as usual, with a few of her friends giving her words of encouragement, and the little work they did. When school was over, she took a bus to the auditions.
When she got off the bus, she entered through the back of the building, because that was the easy way to get backstage. There she met the play director, who she found out his name was Nate.
"Okay, so what I need you to do, is to go on the stage in front of me and a few members of the casts, and you need to read off this part of the script I have underlined here." He points at the underlined words. "And you should be good to go. Okay?""Okay." said Scarlett. And she then starts to walk on stage as Nate walks to his seat where the crowd will be. Nate gets seated and Scarlett stands on the stage waiting for her cue to begin.
"Scarlett. Are you ready to begin?" Asks Nate. However, as soon as Nate asked, Matt came through the door, smiled at Scarlett, and took a seat beside Nate.
"Um, yes. Yes I am." Nate motions for her to begin, so clearly, she begins.
"Kevin! I don't care if they were picking on me! You shouldn't have tried to get even with them!" She yells, as the script said to. "I love you, Kevin! I really do! But, you can't just..." Her voice tones down to almost. "Kevin, you can't try to be the hero all the time. And that's, that's all I have to say to you right now." She makes a motion signaling she is done with the scene.
Nate claps "Bravo! Now that's what I want." He rushes onto the stage. "Ms. Holts, I think that there is a very good chance that you just got this part, you blew everyone else out of the water." He looks at the principal, Ms. Harris. "You, make an announcement tomorrow morning, auditions are no longer needed for the roll of Abby in Nerd Takeover. You got that?
"Loud and clear." Says Ms. Harris. Ms. Harris was the Principal at Scarlett's high school. She was surprisingly young for a principal, only being 25. Her hair was blonde, and she weighed about 120 pounds.
"Thank you, sir." Scarlett says trying to hold her excitement. "I won't let you down"
"Oh, I doubt it. If you did any better, I think I'd have to switch rolls with you and Matt." They both laugh at that.
"Okay, Scarlett, rehearsals are on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Can you make it? Scarlett nods her head in reply.
"Good, now go home, go over all these lines" He hands her the entire script. "and try to get some rest" And with that, his phone rings, he answers it, smiles at Scarlett, and walks off talking on the phone."
Scarlett walks off the stage to a very happy Matt. "I can't believe you made it!" He wraps his arm around her and kisses her forehead. They start to walk outside to Matt's car.
"Oh, so you were doubting me?" She teased.
"Well, uhh, I never meant-" Scarlett cuts him off.
"I know what you meant, and thank you." Scarlett loved to mess with Matt in that kind of way, it was so easy, and she found it kind of cute.
"Well, you're welcome." Matt seemed as if he didn't know what to say. He seemed rather confused. So Scarlett kisses him on the cheek.
They make it to the car, and began to drive towards Scarlett's apartment.
Matt then decides to speak again. "So, are you excited?
"Absolutely!" responded Scarlett. "It's not every day that a boyfriend and girlfriend gets to also play boyfriend and girlfriend in a play."
"True. Well, you wanna go over lines tonight?" Asks Matt as they pull up to Scarlett's apartment.
"I would, but I am really tired. We can do it tomorrow, if that's alright? Says Scarlett.
"Of course, I'll see you tomorrow. I love you." They kiss again.
"I love you too" Scarlett then goes to her apartment, where she walks up to her mom as she's cooking, and tries her best to act sad.
Her mother notices. "Honey, I'm sorry, you can get the next play, you'll show them."
Scarlett then begins to laugh, confusing her mother. "Mom, I made it!"
"Of course you did, I knew you would, just don't scare me like that"
