(Sam's POV)
"We're happy for you Samuel Peter Dickson!" My mom said, hugging me tightly after my confession. Her blonde hair was all over my face. I glared at my dad who was sitting in his chair, shaking his head in disbelief. OMG! I hope he won't disown me! I wasn't being negative, but for a gay person like me, coming out is pretty scary! Who knows what your parents are going to do if they know that you are someone they don't want you to become in the first place! Yes! Homophobic parents!
"You won Marianne!" My dad said, as my mom wrapped her loving arms around me and tucked me closer to her. "What? Mom won the lottery today?" I asked, raising a brow and my mom chuckled and burst into laughter like she had never laughed so hard for years. What was that about? W-wait! Are they hiding something from me?
"Sam, we kind of suspected that you are..." And there was a pause, a moment of silence. "G-gay" she continued, her face turning crimson red as if it's the worse word that ever came out of her mouth. I never want to disappoint my parents. The moment I knew that I was different from everyone else, I hated myself. I hated the fact that I can't live my life normally just like everyone else. A normal straight life.
The moment I saw her face turning red, I've heard myself saying pack your bags and say goodbye. There's no turning back now, run away just like what you've always planned. Right, like that works when you're barely legal and you don't have the financial means to live independently.
I couldn't hold back my tears from falling and so I look down, trying to hide my face and my teary eyes.
"I-I'm so sorry" I stuttered. I almost couldn't say a word. How am I supposed to feel at this very moment? The thought of being disowned gets stronger than ever and for a moment I knew I was going to lose them.
"What?! Why are you crying?" My mom cooed as if she's trying to shush a baby on her arms. I wiped my eyes and I saw my mom crying, wrapping her arms around me even tighter and then she smiles, letting out a soft laugh.
"So, your dad and I made a bet." She said, trying hard not to burst out from laughter. Okay, now I'm getting really confused at this point.
"If you'll end up coming out to us. Your mother wins, but if you turn out to be straight all along. Well, I'll have the rest of the money your mom and I bet "My dad intervened, trying so hard not to laugh. What the heck is this? Wait. What?
Ugh! How cruel! They knew all along! Was it because they knew my laptop's password? And they scanned my history? I had visited tons of gay porn sites!
Ahhh so embarrassing!
Was it Liz? How did she tell them? I swear I'm going to kick her ass if she did, even if she's my best friend!
The joy of betting on my sexuality was never a fun thing to begin with. They knew all along! Why can't they just tell me? This isn't fun. To all parents out there, this is outrageous! You shouldn't bet on your children's sexuality!
They're betting on me! Yup! You heard me right. They're betting on my sexuality!
I have the weirdest parents in the world! Okay, I'm being sarcastic, but who wouldn't be surprised to find out that your parents are gambling on your sexuality? It's bizarre!
I was sweating for several hours and I haven't eaten anything yet since last night's dinner because of this 'coming out thingy'. But I should be happy, right? They still accept me for who I am. I'm just really thankful that they didn't disown me.
"Are you happy now Marianne?" My dad said, handing a couple of bucks to my mom. I shook my head in disbelief and then my dad joined my mom to make a group hug. I felt like a baby bear, being hugged and cuddled by papa bear and mama bear.
