I bolt out of the door and down to the school. I slow down to a steady walk and make my way to my locker. The familiar sound of shoes treading on the floor fills my ears. I hear footsteps approach me and someone taps my shoulder. I spin around and come face-to-face with none other than Louis. I snap my teeth together and try to keep in control. He smiles at me.

“Hi, Juliet! Umm, I was just wondering why you left so abruptly yesterday…” He says. I shrug in response.

   “Are you okay?” He presses.

“Yep” I reply. He looks at me in disbelief.

“Are you sure? You look a little, uh, disheveled.” He says. I shrug again.

“Whatever. I feel fine.” I lie, barely cracking at the end. I avoid his gaze, knowing I would crack if I looked into them.

“Juliet, I hope you know you can trust me.” He pushes. I sigh.

“I know, but I honestly can’t tell you.” I respond.

“Why?” He asks. Thankfully, the bell rings right then. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was keeping and hurry off to class. I walk in the classroom and fall into my chair. Louis and his friends follow in soon and surround me. I sigh inwardly. The teacher begins to talk and my eyes begin to wander. An annoying tapping ensues on someone’s desk. I try to ignore it, but fail miserably as my head snaps towards the sound. I see a smirking Louis and I sigh. He mouths ‘Lunch?’ to me. I think back to the awkward and head-pounding event that happened yesterday. I shake my head no, to which he frowns.

I turn my attention back to the teacher and focus on not falling asleep.

The lunch bell rings and I zoom out to back behind the school. My stomach growls for some heavier rabbit or, if I’m lucky, deer rather than the light human foods like mashed potatoes and casserole. I run deep into the woods and my bones begin to crack and ache. I shrink onto all fours before rising to my full height. Instantly, my paws begin to push off the ground and accelerate me through the trees. I hear a slight ruffling of leaves and jolt my head to a grazing deer. I bend and prepare to pounce. I push off the grass and attack the unsuspecting animal. It falls beneath my paws and I tear into its flesh. I finish eating and run towards the entry to the woods so I wouldn’t be late for my last class. I stop where I am just barely hidden and morph back into my human form. I go to jog out of the woods but my shirt snags on a tree branch, leaving a large rip from the hem to half-way up my stomach. I growl at the unfortunate happening but continue back to school. I walk out of the woods and look down at the rip, hopelessly trying to mend it.

I sigh loudly as I realize it is not fixable. I look up and am immediately met with blue eyes standing about 10 feet away. Oh gosh…

“Hey! Are you okay?” Louis asks frantically, running towards me.

“Uh, yeah… Why wouldn’t I be?” I ask. He glances down at the rip.

“Did you… umm… Okay, this is going to sound crazy. But, did you get attacked by a wolf?” He asks. The words trigger the faint memory of me pouncing on a human, but feeling bad and backing off. Was that… Louis? No, it couldn’t have been. Could it? I snap out of it.

“Umm, y-yeah.” I stutter. His eyes grow wide.

“Bloody heck, Juliet. Are you okay? Did you get scratched? Are you bleeding? Should I get the nurse?” He asks in a frenzy.

“No, no I'm fine. Just a little rip, that’s all.” I say. He calms down slightly before tensing back up.

“Why were you in the woods?” he asks.

“I, uh, I…” I stutter, searching for a good excuse. I hated lying to him, but I couldn’t tell him why. ‘Oh, you know I was hungry! Yep, so I tore up some animal and ate it. This rip? That was just a tree branch that snagged. It’s all cool. Did I mention I’m a werewolf?’ I mean, imagine how that would sound. “Listen, I need to get to class.”

“Wait! Just…” He sighs. “What did the wolf look like?”

I raise an eyebrow in confusion. Why would he care?

    “Um, I don’t know…” I say.

“Was it black? Did its eyes change from black to blue?” He asks.

“I, uh, yeah.” I say, trying to ignore the fact that he just described my wolf perfectly. Well, except for the eyes… My eyes only change when…

Bloody. Heck.

I need a mirror. Now.

“I have to go. Like, right now.” I say hurriedly. I run off in the direction of the girl’s bathroom inside. I finally make it and stare into the mirror. I gaze into my eyes.

Blue.

They change because of my mate. They change because of Louis.
