I slip out of bed and immediately get dressed. I slowly wake up and memories of the previous day flood me. Liam knows. Louis kissed me.
My head picks up and my eyes widen. Louis. Kissed. Me. I let a smile spread across my face. My emotions run wild inside of my stomach like a pack of pups just learning how to run and attack. I get ready for school in an unusually jumpy and almost… happy manner. I bolt out of the door and to the school. I slow down my movements to a normal pace and approach my locker. I begin to grab my books out of it but I hear footsteps approaching. I whirl around quickly and see a pouting Louis. I smirk a little.
“Aww, I was trying to surprise you.” He says.
“Good luck with that.” I state, trying to wipe the smile off of my face. I turn back towards my locker and continue retrieving books. I finish getting them and close my locker to find Louis leaning against the locker beside mine. He smiles at me.
“Umm… Juliet?” He asks, suddenly nervous.
“Yes?” I ask. He sticks his hands in his pockets and shuffles around a little.
“I was wondering if you’d maybe like to go on a date with me tonight?” He asks. He bites his lips hopefully. I begin to bicker in my mind. I don’t know what to do on a date! But, it’s Louis! Just act like you do all the time! I’ll make a fool out of myself!
“Sure” I say, smiling. I mentally hit myself. Did I really just say yes? Bloody heck… what have I gotten myself into? I glance up and see him beaming. He flashes me a heart-melting smile. I smirk back as the argument slowly dies down.
“Walk to class with me?” He asks. I motion for him to lead and I’ll follow. He has other ideas as he slips his hand over mine. I stare down at the floor with a small smile. We walk down to the classroom and I slowly look up. Niall, Harry, and Zayn are smirking at Louis and/or wiggling their eyebrows. I glance over at Liam and he raises his eyebrows at me. I cast my glance back at the floor and slip my hand out of Louis’. He frowns a little but goes to sit at his desk. I slide into my own and look up to the teacher.
The day floats by until Lunchtime. As per usual, I sprint back to the forest behind the school. I slip into the comfort amongst the trees. My bones shift and morph, changing me into my wolf form. I run through the woods until I stumble upon an unsuspecting rabbit. I quickly pounce and it becomes my lunch. A cool splash of water on my nose brings me out of my food. I growl but spin back towards the school so I don’t get too wet. I shift before coming out of the woods. I am suddenly very aware of the pounding rain and dark grey clouds overhead. I growl again under my breath. I run inside the school. My black converse sneakers squeak against the white tiles. My hair drips with the wet raindrops and splash when they hit the floor. I sigh as several teenagers glance at me and laugh. I breathe deeply before walking to the restroom. I desperately try to ring out my hair and my clothes. I take a quick glance around the bathroom before shaking as if I'm in wolf state. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work as well being human. I sigh after realizing that I'm as dry as I can get for now.
I rush to my locker to quickly grab my books for my last class before the bell rings. I rush off to the class and slip into my seat.
“Juliet, please come to my desk.” The teacher calls my name. The entire class turns to look at me and laughs. I squeak the entire way from my desk in the back of the class up to the teacher.
“I understand that you were not in my class yesterday. You were, however, present for the rest of your classes. Would you care to explain?” She asks with a straight face. I sigh.
“My t-shirt got ripped so I headed home for another one, seeing as it wouldn’t be decent to walk around school with a shirt that shows half of my stomach. By time I had gotten home and changed, the class was 5 minutes before being finished. It takes three times that just to get back to school. So, I didn’t bother.” I lie smoothly. She raises an eyebrow at me.
“Really? Then, can you explain why you and Mr. Tomlinson were seen leaving the school early yesterday?” She asks with a smirk, feeling as though she has the upper hand over me. I scowl inwardly and mentally growl at whoever saw us. She smiles. “That’s what I thought. I’ll see you for detention after class.”
I roll my eyes and go back to my desk. The teacher begins to drone on and on about some subject that I’m not paying attention too. Finally, the last bell rings. I go to stand up and hopefully escape but the teacher catches me.
“Detention. Now.” She says, pointing back to my seat. I shrink back into my seat as she opens the door. A couple of other students file in, most of them notorious for getting in trouble. The last one, though, looks a little intimidated and slightly worried. I smirk, it’s Louis. He spots me and rushes to the seat next to me. He shoots me a look, showing me that he is anything but comfortable with being in a room full of jocks and bullies. I smirk at him and look around the room. Heavy footsteps stomp nearby and I avert my gaze to where they are coming from. I look up and see the same bully that attempted to beat Louis up in front of Louis’ desk. He seems blissfully unaware of my presence. He shoots a menacing look to Louis before taking a seat in the desk in front of him. My eyes narrow into slits.
The teacher sits back down at her desk and begins typing on her laptop. Most of the students begin to whisper around. My sensitive ears perk and listen to a couple conversations. One specific conversation proceeds to get louder and louder until it is not only my focus, but the focus of the rest of the room also. The teacher seems not to notice until the two boys stand up and attempt to attack one another. The teacher shoots out of her chair and desperately drags them out of the room. Every student in the room becomes aware of the teacher’s absence and conversations pursue much louder than previously. I silently groan at the headache that is developing.
Through the noise, I hear a chair slide against the tile and heavy feet land on the floor. A sickly chuckle rings out nearby.
“Perfect. Now I can show you what happens when you mess with me, you little punk.” The bully sneers. Louis grits his teeth together and builds a tough façade. He leans back in his seat and throws his feet on his desk.
“Oh, you think you’re so tough. I’ll wipe that smirk right off your face.” The bully snaps. He reels back and goes to punch Louis in the face. I immediately pop up to my feet and grab his fist.
“Don’t you even think about it.” I growl. The smug smile is quickly wiped off his face and he tries to back away. My grip on his fist increases until I hear a couple of cracks. Louis looks at me in horror and the bully screams in pain. I release his hand and he scurries off to the corner desk, as far away as possible. I silently slide back into my seat and stare down at my knuckles.
I dare to look up at Louis. He sends me a small smile, obviously a bit put off by my actions. I grit my teeth together and begin to stare daggers into my desk. Memories and realization floods through my mind.
I’m still a killer.
I’ll always be dangerous.
No one close, no one hurt.
I can’t hurt Louis.
No one close, no one hurt.
I can’t get close to Louis.
I am a killer.
