With my right eye closed, I pull back the string of my bow - Ulfvindr - and aim for the target. The seconds before shooting are some of the most tense times. They're also some of my favourites! Adrenaline courses through me as I lock on the target. I suck in a breath and prepare to shoot.

"Boo!" A gentle voice whispers in my ear, shocking me. My hands jerk up causing the arrow to fly into the air and land on the floor five meters away. "Great hit."

I spin around to face the idiot who interrupted me. "Why-" I cut off as I get a look at the culprit. It's a boy.

His intense blue eyes bore into mine. "I'm Zane. Zane Von Seggrern." He gives me the once over and smiles, revealing his pointy white teeth.

"A vampire," I say, placing my bow onto it's rack. "What brings you here, Zane?"

"I'm here for lodging. Only a month or two... Isaiah said that this place is filled with our kind." I laugh at his comment.

"It's hardly filled. And who is Isaiah?"

"He's my... Boss." He walks around the weapons room, examining a few items. "Who exactly lives here, then? Will they be of any harm to me?"

"My two best friends and myself. I wouldn't think they'd have a problem with you. You're a vampire... I'm a crosser."

Zane spins around to face me with a quizzical look. "I'm not familiar with that term?"

"A 'crosser' is referred to a creature who is half vampire, half something else. Be it a witch, fairy, demon..."

"I see." He swiftly walks over so he's directly in front of me. "And what are you crossed with?" He pushes his dark brown hair out of his eyes and smiles.

"Guess," I say, smirking.

"Hmm..." He smirks back and taps his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps you are one of the winged people?"

"An angel? Nope."

"A demon?"

"Nope. Would you like a clue?"

"Yes please."

"My bow is called Ulfvindr." His eyes light up with amusement. "Know what I am yet?"

"A werewolf," he chuckles. "Figures."

"Mhm. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go find my friend. Nice meeting you Zane, you're kinda cool."

He grins. "Thanks. Sorry, I didn't catch your name?"

"Luna." I turn around and walk out of the weapons room. Well that was an odd encounter! I haven't come across another vampire in a decade! We're a secretive bunch, us vamps. Discreetly and elegantly murdering enemies is our thing... Didn't you know?

I walk to the fire room where Annie will be. She's always in here throwing fire about like it's nothing! One time she set Lie's wings on fire! That was an awful day for Lie... She was devastated! Was I too hard on her this morning? Maybe I should apologise when she comes back.

"Hey hottie," I call as I walk into the fire room. Anastasia looks up and laughs at my joke.

"Hey Lu! I'm just finishing up here, then we'll get lunch, ok?" I nod and sit on a stool by the door. The fire room is painted with vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red (with the occasional burn mark here and there).

I watch as Annie sets fire to an innocent-looking table in the center of the room. Her hands blaze red as the fire shoots out of her palms and onto the table. Then Annie points her palms towards a giant bucket of water. The water rises from the bucket, swirling above it in beautiful patterns. Annie then jerks her hands towards the burning table, making the water rush towards it. With a loud splash, the water hits the table, effectively putting out the fire.
