As Autumn started her freshman year there were goals, plans, and set decisions. While, she and her mother began their first day of school shopping, it was astonishing how much had changed.
It was finally the first day of school. She was a freshman this year and she knew she had many friends she had met from tennis, but somehow she fell completely and utterly alone. Maybe, it was just first day jitters she thought, but she knew exactly what it was. She knew that she felt alone because none of her grandparents had called to wish her a great first day of school. It had happened every year for the past 8 school years. But she knew this year would not be like every other year.
A tragedy struck Autumn's life when he grandfather was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer that affects the plasma cells. She could not imagine her grandfather not beating something like this. He was the toughest man she knew. But, for him, it just kept getting worse. About a year after the diagnosis; her greatest role model died before she was ready. She went through all the stages of grief but continues on the cycle and stoping on sadness and that is where she has been for a while.
Starting this new year at a new school was supposed to be the turning point and she vowed to keep that promise.
