Prophet looked her with wide eyes. She looked so small, so fragile.
"No. Absolutely not. Out of the question." He said sternly.
"Well why the hell not?!" Wolf asked angrily.
"We can't be responsible for your safety." Prophet replied picking up his plate, Wolf hot on his heels.
"I'll be responsible for my own saftey." She said following him out of the food hall. "Come now, Prophet be reasonable."
"I am being reasonable. The answer is no." Prophet retorted lighting up another cigarette.
"Prophet. I'm a soldier. I'm built for battle. It's what I. And after all your people have done for me it's the least I can do...please." She begged. Prophet met her gaze, her eyes pleaded with him. He knew she could handle herself, he just hated the thought of her getting hurt.
"...Fine. But you stay on my heels. And if you break formation, you find your own way back." He scolded. He sounded like his father.
"YES!! Woohoo! I won't let'chya down!" Wolf smiled and skipped around excitedly.

Wolf smoothed out the wrinkles in the fresh pair of jeans Prophet had given her.
"Get yourself cleaned up." He'd told her. "And get some more rest if you need it. Just be ready for the meeting tonight. When the moon is in the middle of the sky."
Prophet seemed nice, always had a smile on his face. Not that she'd known him long enough to compare it to anything else. Hell she'd only met the man a few hours earlier. Yet in that very short time she'd spent with him, the only thing she felt was safety and contentment. Letting out a sight, Wolf sat on the fur blankets of the bed. The hut she'd been given was small, but cozy. Much like the cottage her grandmother lived in just outside of her village back home.
As she relaxed and settled into the bed, Wolf wondered if she'd ever see home again. As if it really mattered. Once one was chosen as a soldier, their whole live was nothing but training, missions, death. Hell, Wolf couldn't even remember what home looked like. And the few memories she had of her family were to horrible to describe.
Wolf shrugged and felt her eyes become heavy. Although she hated to admit it, her body was still healing and needed time to rest if she was going to be of any use in the raid. Once she allowed her lids to close, it wasn't long before sleep hit her hard.
The white of everything around her burned. The IVs and wires hooked up to her body felt foreign and strange. The more she tried to open her eyes, they more they stung.
"Subject is awake, doctor. Initiating test." a fuzzy far off voice said.
Sharp pain seized through her. Like a thousand knives stabbing her all at once. she felt her heart pound and the monitor agreed with its repetitive beeping. Everything started to roar in her ears. Her body felt like it was being ripped in half.
"MAKE IT STOP!!!" she felt herself scream.
"Wolf!"
Wolf gasped and sat straight up in bed. Her eyes darted all around her. She felt disoriented and scared. Her breathing was ragged and her palms felt clammy.
"Hey, hey hey...it's okay." a soothing voice said.
Looking for the owner of the voice, and saw Prophet. Her muscles relaxed and she smiled.
Prophet grabbed her hand reassuringly. "You're okay." he said softly. Wolf nodded. Her heartbeat started to slow as she remembered where she was. Safe. She was safe.
"Nightmare?" Prophet asked. Wolf sighed deeply.
"Yes..."
"Those suck."
"Mhmm. What are you doing here?" she asked. The light flooding in from the window revealed it was only dusk outside.
"I was doing a perimeter check and I heard you screaming." He replied sounding concerned.
"Yea well...bad dreams do that to ya." Wolf chuckled sitting up.
"At least you can dream." Prophet shifted his gaze to his lap.
"You don't dream?" Wolf asked curiously.
"Not anymore."
"What happened?"
Prophet stared at Wolf, a forlorn gaze across his face. "She took them with her."
Wolf stared into his powerful blue eyes. They now looked grey and cloudy with sadness. Wolf need not ask any more. She already understood. This man's heart had been broken. And whoever broke it took everything with her. Wolf pitied him and the pain he so obviously bared.
"You mustv'e loved her very much to cause such a great pain." She said softly.
"I did. But love wasn't enough." Prophet sighed and stood. "I have to finish my rounds. I'll see you tonight." He quickly walked out, wiping his eyes. It felt like he was walking but after a few moments of hearing himself pant, he realized he mustv'e been running. He didn't honestly know why or how fast but he kept going. Eventually he reached his house and he slammed the door. Prophet tried to breathe deep. His breathing sounded funny. Was he sobbing? He felt a wetness on his cheeks but he assumed it was sweat.
Angrily, he slammed his fist against the small wooden door.
"NO! I'm done! I'm tired of remembering. I. Am. tired. Of. Hurting...."He sobbed through clenched teeth. He walked over to his bed and curled up into the fetal position. Softly he cried to no one but himself.
