Chapter 1
Almost my whole life I have lived in a drak black abyss. It seems that I wasnt the perfect teenage boy my family dreamed of. They say im differnet, old news, a mistake, a disgrace. I cant help the way I am, I was born this way.
I've basicly lived on my own, I sit in my room; star at a wall for hours, blankly, listening to the tick toc of my edward scissor hands clock, listing to my parents argue down stairs, and listen to my little sister Maddie and her little friends laugh and have fun. But it wasn't always like this. It started last year, were everthing was the happy days. No worries, no fuss, nothing. Just a big happy family with love and capassion.
Maddie and I were in the backyard, I was pushing her on the swings. Mom and dad sitting on the patio, drinking tea. Seemed like a normal, sunny Friday afternoon.
"Kids. We need to talk to you for a few minutes." My dad called out. Maddie and I sat at the patio table and waited to hear something come out of our parents mouths.
"Your grandmother is very sick, she's not doing to well. Your father and I are going to Michigan tonight. Chase, watch your sister and dont goof off." My mother said.
"I will I promis." I took Maddie inside so she could play upstairs. My parents were packing a few things and I was just watching some TV, like any teenager should. when my parents were getting ready to leave it was around six o'clock.
"Chase, keep an I on Maddie and Maddie you behave for your brother." My dad said looking at the both of us back and forth.
"Dad, I have everything under control. Don't worry." I replied giving my dad a nudge on the shoulder, he gave me one back.
"I left a little list of things for you to do for me when were gone, I expect them to be done before we get home----." My mom said.
"Alright mom, I'll get them done. Now you guys need to go see grandma, I can handle everything." I tried to shove them out the door but they just wouldnt budge.
"Maddie, remember what I said and behave for your brother. You hear?" My dad asked my little sister as she wasnt paying really much attention anyway cause she was playing with a little barbie doll.
"Okay daddy, I will."
"Well be back tomorrow, you two be safe." Mom said looking over her shoulder as she and dad were heading to the car.
"We will, see ya." I said and shut the front door behind me. I went to the kitchen were the list of chores was; clean the kitchen floor, dust the glass table, iron the clothes, give Maddie a bath and put her to bed by nine-thirty.
The kitchen floor didnt take me that long to do, I just took the mop and scrubed a tiny bit and put that away. The glass table was small, I sparyed it down with the furniture polish and wiped it down. I took the clothes basket into the front room where Maddie was, she was coloring in her fairy coloring book. I did the first two shirts and pants, then the phone rang. I ran into the kitchen and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Chase, Whats up?" It's my best friend Destrie.
"Ironing clothes and watching Maddie. Why?"
"I got two tickets to the Slipknot concert in three days, you wanna go?"
"Oh my god, that would be so freaking awesome-------" Thats when I heard Maddie scream at the top of her lungs, crying out like she was in pain.
"I gotta go" and clicked the phone off. I ran into the front room where Maddie was and saw the iron on top of her, when I jerked it off; her face down to her left hip was completly red.
I grabbed her and put her in my car and drove as fast as I could to the hospital, Maddies crying out for mom, I'm going way over the speed limits and i know now im totally screwed.
A few minutes in the wating room which was surprisingly fast, a doctor came into the room.
"Is there anybody here for Maddie McGeir?" She called out. I quickly stood up and walked over to her.
"Me, i'm her older brother. What's wrong? Is she alright?"
"She's fine but she severly burt from the left side of her face down to her stomach. She wont be able to see out her left eye. I'm sorry." She told me that my parents were on there way. I sat down and stared at the floor, I blew it. I was suppose to whatch her, I turned my back for like fifteen seconds and now shes hurt, all because of me. What have I done. I'm so sorry Maddie.
