Genny
Two Years Ago...
"Mommy!" I called out. I was heading into the bathroom to make sure I was all set for my dance class. Carson was already at the studio rehearsing and I was about to be late. Even though my dance teacher was my older sister, she was extremely tough on me just due to the fact that I was her younger sister. She didn't play that shit at all.
I stared at my reflection, my eyes a bit more chinkier than usual because my hair was slicked back into an extremely tight ass ponytail. Still in my leotard and my leggings, I ran out and into my bedroom to grab my gym bag that was stuffed with my change of clothes, after class I was planning on seeing Jeremy . He may have been a bit older, but I didn't care. He was finally my boyfriend now and I must say it was a bit of a good feeling.
"MA! WHERE ARE YOU, W-" I went to shut the light off in my room but the sound of my mother's loud screaming shook me.
"PLEASE CHARLES! You have to stay. You cannot leave like this!"
The pain in my mother's voice broke me. I tiptoed down the hallway until I reached the steps. Gently, I walked down the steps to try to get a full view of the monstrosity that is now my living room.
"What the hell is going on?" I asked as I cautiously stepped over broken shards of glass. Some were from broken picture frames that once proudly took stance in my living room, while the rest are broken bottles of liquor.
Typical.
My mother turned her face towards me with a look of defeat plastered on it. Her short hair was ruffled all over the place while her eyes were blood shot red. The wet tears that streamed her face were now dry, the white marks giving it all away.
To the left, there was my dad. The image that burned my eyes was beginning to piss me off. His flask was pressed against his lips as he wore a stupid grin on his face. I could see in his body he was drunk as hell. Posted by the door his shoulders slumped down.
"Goooo, Go back upstairs baby gurl." My father slurred. His knees beginning to fall as well.
"No, what the hell is happening?" I questioned feeling tears beginning to burn the rims of my eyes.
It wasn't because of my fathers condition this was nothing new, it was the luggage that I' saw, that was now beginning to worry me.
My mother sighed rubbing her hands against her jeans. "Gen baby, go get ready. I'll take you to meet Carson in a little bit."
"But I am ready," I retorted once I got close enough to my mother, "If daddy wants to leave. Let his drunk ass go."
"He can't leave baby, he isn't in the proper state of mind." My mother defended back.
"He's in the proper state of mind to drink though!" I yelled back, "I'm tired of watching you day in and day out break you're back and defend him ma. He's putting you through so much stress you don't deserve this."
She stared at me before darting her eyes out to my dad. Was stumbling his way out into the NY coldness , trying to get his shit in his car.
"You worrying about that man is going to kill you." I mumbled following my eyes to him. I bit down on my lip as I watched her.
"Baby you won't understand." My mother said back clearly. She ran her fingers through her short curls.
"I don't understand why you love him." I said under my breath. My mother eyes me closely licking her lips.
"Genny baby let me tell you something about love and strength. I hope you won't ever have to find out like this, but when you love somebody baby." She paused rubbing her forehead, "You love them at their worse. When their down and out, you make sure you can love them hard enough and hopefully show them this so that they know they need to get back to them self. You're father is sick right now, and for me to leave him on his own wouldn't be the best thing to do right now."
