Katherine stared out the window at the large field on the side of the school. It wasn't very large, but flowers sprouted frequently and the gentle breeze always made it a perfect place for relieving stress. The teacher, Mrs. Brown, smacked her ruler down on Katherine's desk, making her snap out of her day dream.
"Ms. Silver, do I have to care if you get an education? Could I quit my job to be more successful and to make s better profit? Yes I could. But I'm choosing to care about your education, so pay attention!" The elder snapped and walked back to her desk, setting the ruler down.
Katherine shuffled her feet nervously. Her uniform was quite uncomfortable. The shoes hurt her feet and her skirt was shorter than the rest of the girls. She sighed and pulled out her journal, turning to a new page.
'Today is soooooo boring.
Yep, Mrs. Brown hates me.
I hate her too.
I never liked school.
I like Mrs. Miller
We read about angels in her class today.
I wonder if Angels even exist'
Guess I'll never know.'The loud ringing of the bell caught her attention. She scrambled to put away all her papers before rushing out the door and towards the large exit of the school. Of course, once she got there, two large boys were fighting. Everyone was crowded around them and cheering.
"Great." She sighed and walked back up the hallway, taking a left, going down the stairs, and exiting out the back exit.
For some odd reason, she felt an unknown presence with her. The wind was slightly stronger than it usually was. She marched up a large hill and peered out into the distance.
She noticed a glowing light. It wasn't very big or bright, but it was surely noticeable. She cautiously cut through the field towards it. With each step, the light moved further away from her.
"Seems to be...a....a wisp!" A wide smile spread across Katherine's face. She quickly tiptoed towards the wisp until she was close enough to touch it. She reached her hand out.
The wisp vanished and reappeared further down the field. Katherine looked back. She couldn't see the school now. Sighing, she trekked through the tall grass towards the wisp again. For what seemed like forever she chased after it. The wisp didn't seem to want to harm her. If she lagged behind, it would always wait for her to catch up.
"Cmon! I'm tired of chasing aft-" she stopped in the middle of her sentence, peering up at the magnificent sight in front of her.
It was a forest. The trees were unusually tall. Their green leaves glistened from a fresh rainfall.
"Woah..." She walked into the forest, peering at everything. She saw a deer and a large white wolf. Many beautiful birds in all different colors. Butterflies flew from each tree, their wings seemed to glow in the sunlight.
Katherine suddenly felt peaceful. The forest was quiet. The breeze felt nice on her sensitive skin. The birds song was the perfect melody to sooth her from all worries.
"I never knew a place like this existed. It's so....relaxing." She said in a quiet voice, gently brushing her hand against the smooth bark of a strong tree.
The wisp appeared in front of her again. She smiled and took a step forward, following it deeper and deeper into the forest. Unlike a usual forest, it wasn't scary. It was beautiful! As she got deeper, the feeling of relaxation grew.
The wisp stopped at a lake. The lake was a bluish greenish color. Katherine squinted towards her right. She could just make out a small waterfall. The gentle sound of water falling was music to her ears. She bent down and dipped her hands in the water. She brought her hands up to her mouth and took a sip.
"This...this taste great."
The water shimmered and sparkled in the golden sunlight. On the other side of the lake, was a berry bush. Blueberries. Katherine licked her lips. "My favorite."
Walking down the side of the river, the Amber eyed girl tried to find a way to get across. Then, she noticed something that could make even the toughest of all people squeal.
"AWW! A BUNNY!!!" Katherine carefully and cautiously walked towards a small white bunny. The bunny quickly hopped onto a stepping stone that led to he other side of the river. She smiled. "Perfect."
Following the bunny, she made it to the other side and walked up to the berry bush. She plopped down beside it. "I'm soooo tired. My ankles hurt from all the walking. Might as well enjoy the berries." She gently picked the berries from the bush, and ate a handful. That's when she noticed the bunny staring at her.
"Oh! Hello little guy. Would you like some berries?" Katherine picked three berries from the bush and held her hand out the the bunny. It cautiously hopped up to her and ate the berries out of her hand. She giggled. "See? I won't hurt you." Reaching out, she gently rubbed the bunny's head and stroked its ears. It hooped in her lap and pushed its nose against her hand, demanding more berries.
"Okay okay." Katherine giggled and picked five berries this time. She held her hand out to the bunny who quickly gobbled up the berries.
"You must be a hungry thing." She continued to pet the bunny until dusk arrived.
"Oh no....what time is it? It's getting late. I should probably go home but...I just love this forest so much." She looked down to notice that the bunny had fallen asleep in her lap.
"Well...I have food and water. Plus the ground is soft. I don't think there are any animals that would harm me in this peaceful place. I guess I can sleep here tonight and keep exploring tomorrow." Katherine gently lifted the bunny and laid it down beside her. She curled up on the soft grass and closed her eyes. Moments later, she fell into a deep sleep.
