Why was I shivering right now? Why was I looking for ways to escape? I'll tell you why. Down that isle right there, was a man. A ruthless man, a man that took lives without a second thought, a man that was harsh, a man that was my groom.
I wasn't here by choice of course. I was here because of my father. To pay off his debt he had to sign a contract that said I would marry this man. My father, my lovely father signed it without even thinking about how I would feel. Tears welled up in my eyes. Others looked at me and thought that it was tears of joy, they smiled and talked about how cute we were together.
Finally after what seemed like forever I made it to the isle. I stared into the eyes of the person that would be my destruction, my downfall. I knew there was no going back, we don't get second chances in life. He smiled at me and stroked my face. The priest looked at us and smiled.
''We are gathered here today for the union of Belle Marie and Marciello Romani. Who gives away this woman?'', he asked.
''I do,'' my father said, standing up. He looked at me apologetically and sat back down.
''And who gives away this man?'' He asked.
''I do,'' Marciello's dad said.
''Now does anyone have any reason that these two should not be married. Speak now or forever hold your peace,'' he said. No one said anything.
''Do you Marciello Romani take Belle Marie to be your wife?'', the priest asked.
''I do,'' he said, not taking his eyes off of me.
''Do you Belle Marie take Marciello Romani to be your husband,'' the priest asked. There was a long pause on my part. Marciello squeezed my hand and I answered, '' I do,''
''Then by the power invested in me I pronounce you husband and wife,'' he said. Marciello smiled and led me along the isle. We ran down the isle into the car. I waved out the car window, waving away my old life.
