Kafei decided to hide his face from people. He knew he would cause Anju great pain, but he didn't want to be humiliated. Instead he made his hideout the back of the Curiosity Shop because he was sure no one would try to get in the old, abandoned workplace. He had a few red satin envelopes and pieces of paper, so he decided that he would send Anju a letter. So she would know that she could believe in him.

Dear Anju,

I'm so sorry I haven't been in contact with you. Well... I've had some, uh, complications. Please don't worry about me. I know your mother doesn't like me, but I want to show her I can be a good husband. Just keep believing in me.

Kafei

After a while, Kafei finally agreed on a letter. He put on his Keaton Mask and ran down the long hallway. He quickly ran to the nearest postbox and inserted his letter. He took a moment to observe Clock Town. It was bright and colorful as always, but he noticed there weren't many people. He did notice someone new though. He was dressed in bright green, had a sword and shield on his back, and had a fairy with him. Probably just a tourist, Kafei thought. But Kafei had no idea that this 'tourist' would help reunite him with Anju.

"Anju, time to get up. It's 7 and your shift starts at 8," Anju's mother said. Anju rolled in her bed. Finally she got up.

"Oh Kafei. Why can't we go somewhere better?" She picked up a picture of him and set it back down.

After she got ready, Anju walked down the stairs to her desk. She checked the reservation log. "Oh. Looks like there's a Goron checking in on the afternoon today. Uh, his name is Link... I'll have to remember that."

After several long and boring hours, the Postman came. Anju looked up. She was so frustrated and tired from turning down so many people because they had no more rooms.

"Delivery for Ms. Anju. From Mr. Kafei."

"Kafei?! Where did you get this letter??"

"From the postbox."

"From the postbox where??!"

"From the postbox somewhere."

"Ugh.. That's not what I meant." Anju finally gave up, because she knew if this guy knew anything about Kafei, he wouldn't be sharing it anytime soon. She tore open the letter and read it.

"Don't worry Kafei. I still believe in you."

Just then, a big Goron came in through the door. "Um... Do you have a reservation?" Anju said.

The Goron nodded. "Oh! You must be the Goron checking in today. Mr. Link right? Welcome. Um.. Here's your room key."

The Goron started wobbling up the stairs. A few minutes after, another Goron came into the room.

"Excuse me. I have a reservation. I'm Link."

Anju was confused. "Uhm. Sorry but we already have someone named Link checked in. Sorry for the inconvenience. Sorry!"

The Goron sadly walked out the door. Anju looked around. To her surprise, she saw a small boy walk up and put on a mask that closely resembled... him.

She gasped. "You're looking for him too?! Meet me at 11:30 tonight. Please."

Anju spent most of her time working on a letter back to Kafei.

Dear Kafei,

I received your letter and I understand. I am meeting with a small boy that I feel I can trust. I think you can too. He wears green and has a fairy. If you meet him... well. Just trust me on saying that you can trust him.

Anju❤️

11:30 finally came and just as he had promised, the little boy was there. Anju held out her letter. "Can you deliver this for me? Oh, and if you meet him... can you tell me how he looked?"

The boy nodded and ran off.

Kafei was lonely. He was sure that Anju wouldn't write him back. A lot of his free time was spent looking out of the hidden window that could spy on Curiosity Shop "shoppers".

Kafei looked out the window once more. What he saw surprised
him. He saw the mysterious man again. Kafei strained his ears to hear their conversation.

"What'cha got for me t'day Sakon?" The Curiousity Shop owner asked curiously.

So his name is Sakon, Kafei thought.

"Well, I got this bomb bag. Wanna make a profit. Whatcha gonna offer?"

"Eh. How much ya want?"

"I was thinking like... Hmmm... 200 rupees?" Sakon asked hopefully.

"Eh. How bout 100? Ain't goin' no higher."

"What?! This is totally worth 200! But fine, I'll take it.." Sakon said angrily.

"Alright. Now it's fifty."

"WHAT?!"

Kafei had had about enough of that conversation.

He left, feeling as hopeless as ever before. Desperate for answers and willing to give anything for help, Kafei decided to make his way over to the Great Fairy Fountain once nightfall came. He brought his Sun's Mask. The mask he had once intended to wear at his wedding. He wanted to offer it to the Great Fairy, in hopes that she would help and knowing Anju would understand. He had never been to her fountain before, as the thought of someone so powerful had (shamefully) intimidated him, but this was his only choice.

The entrance to North Clocktown was dark and secluded. As he entered, Kafei saw a looming figure out of the corner of his eye. Fearing that someone saw him, he quickly hid behind a bush. He listened intently, but heard nothing.

He began to make the trek again, but suddenly was attacked by a large figure.

"Let me go!!" Kafei screamed. He remembered that he had his valuable Sun's Mask with him. He tried to make sure his attacker did not see it, but this brought attention to it.

Since his body was so weak as opposed to normal, he was unable to fight off the figure and was forced to give up his precious mask.

"Not bad for a kid! Better luck next time, bud."

Kafei recognized that voice. It was the man from earlier.

Sakon.

Sakon made his retreat, leaving Kafei alone and empty-handed.

As it started to rain, Kafei sat on the ground, feeling empty and defeating.

I'm so sorry, Anju. The tears came once more.
