"What the hell are you doing here?" I ask Blaze.
"Wow, you seem to use the word 'hell' a lot," he chuckles. I give him a glare and he sighs. "I'm part of the football team at Sterling. Quarterback, exactly. Is that a good enough explanation for you?"
"Yeah, I guess," I mumble and start to walk away, although I'm tempted to stay back with Blaze and tease him to no end.
"Wait, Ana?" I hear Blaze call.
"What?"
"Do you want to hang out after the game?"
"Sorry. I can't. I have better things to do than spend time with you, and I already have a commitment," I tell him. Why does he want to hang out with me? I'm not like the normal girls he probably screws.
"Some other time, then?" he asks me.
"Maybe," I reply as I turn around to walk away again. All of a sudden, I come to my senses and realize that it's kind of suspicious. "You barely know me, so why do you want to hang out with me?"
"You seem cool," is all he says before running away to join his teammates.
"Cool? I'm the opposite of cool. What is he thinking?" I mumble to myself as I turn around to Mia.
"Uh, Ana, who is that guy?" She asks me.
"No one of my concern," I tell her.
"He seems interested in you," Mia says. "He's also super hot, so why are you fighting back?"
"You know that I can't have any distractions whatsoever!" I remind her. "He may be attractive, but so what? He's a huge douchebag!"
"Come on, let's head to the game," she says.
"This is so stupid," I mutter as I follow Mia out the door to the bleachers on the side of the football field. A cool, autumn breeze blows past us causing me to shiver. I pull the sleeves of my sweatshirt further down to cover my hands. As I clutch my sleeves, I notice that something isn't right. Angels don't react to changes in weather, no matter how slight or how extreme. We don't shiver due to the cold or sweat due to the heat. We do feel rain and snow, but if there is a blizzard, there are no problems walking through it. Trust me; I've done it.
That shiver can only mean one of two things.
One: That my mission is so soon that it interferes with my senses.
Or two: That there are Demons around and my instinct is telling me to get away.
So, me being me, what do I do?
I run away, through the school's back doors and into the cafeteria, where the maintenance crew is cleaning tables from today's mess at lunch. There are too many witnesses, so I run into the girl's washroom to pull out my phone. After a quick text to Mia, I call the only person that would know the answer to why I'm feeling this way.
"Grim!" I yell into the phone.
"Woah, calm down, Ana!" he laughs. "You trying to make me deaf or something?"
"Something weird is going on," I tell him before I explain the weird shivers.
"It's great that you realized it," he says. "Come home as soon as possible. You're right that it could either be Demons or your mission, but better to be safe than sorry. Just ditch; I'll let the school know that it was a family issue."
"Thanks so much," I sigh.
"No problem, kiddo. Get home now," Grim instructs before he hangs up. I find the nearest side door and slowly run outside. I can't run full out since anyone could be watching me at any moment, so I take a slow jog back to the house.
