Today, Gwen had a much later schedule.
That meant Aiah was heading straight to Khae's house completely alone.
Khae's class usually starts at 8:00 so that means she arrives early to school every time Aiah picked her up.
The morning traffic was still light when she turned into the familiar street.
She slowed the red car to a stop outside the gate and let the engine idle, her fingers resting lightly on the steering wheel.
She smiled to herself.
This was becoming part of her routine.
A few moments later, the small gate opened.
Khae stepped out, carefully closing it behind her before making her way toward the car. Her backpack rested against her uninjured shoulder, her wrist still secured in its brace.
The moment Khae opened the passenger door and slid into the seat, her eyes darted straight to the back row. Empty. A slow, deeply satisfied smile spread across her face. It was a look full of pure mischief.
It immediately made Aiah suspicious.
"...What?" Aiah asked, bite-sizing her own laughter.
Khae turned fully in her seat, leaning her shoulder against the door. She looked entirely too pleased.
"Gwen isn't here."
"No," Aiah said, biting her inner lip.
"She isn't."
"So..."
Khae leaned a little closer across the console, her eyes locking onto Aiah's lips.
"It's just you and me."
"I already know where this is going," Aiah teased, though her heart gave a sudden, hard thud.
"I have a feeling you're up to no good."
"I'm up to something very good," Khae murmured.
She rested her elbow on the center console, tilting her head.
"I've been thinking."
"That always sounds dangerous."
"It usually is."
Khae lowered her voice to a soft, teasing whisper that made Aiah's breath hitch.
"I think my driver owes me a real good morning kiss. A proper one."
Aiah raised an eyebrow, trying to play hard to get.
"I already texted you good morning."
"Texts don't have a heartbeat."
"I put a red heart emoji next to it," Aiah argued, her arms folding across her chest.
"That definitely counts."
"It absolutely does not." Khae's eyes softened, a beautiful, lazy warmth spreading through them.
"Come here. Stop making excuses."
Aiah tried to look tough and unconvinced.
She lasted about two seconds before her posture melted.
"You are unbelievably spoiled, you know that?"
"I've been told," Khae smiled happily.
"And whose fault is that?"
Khae's smile turned incredibly sweet and tender.
