Mist

That was the day I first saw a goddess. The day I saw two beautiful goddesses, dancing on the lake.

How her long silky hair floated in the air as she danced, jumping gracefully into the air.

How her silk robe laid on the water, like clouds in the sky, yet not getting wet.

I will never forget.

That mystical sight I saw.

Of two goddesses.

Dancing on the water.

Gracefully.

Elegantly.

Beautifully.

As their whole self seemed to glow in the moonlight.

Giving them an even more mysterious feeling than before.

Mystical.

Out of this world.

Supernatural, people would say.

And yet so unreachable.

Although it feels as if you would be able to touch them just by stretching your hand out.

But before that,

They will disappear like the mist.

Slipping right through your fingertips.

Never to be seen again.

Just like gods and goddesses told in legends.

They may just be a manifestation of my imagination.

But I know what I saw.

People may not believe me.

But I know what I saw were

The two guardian goddesses of this lake

Meant to protect it from evil.

So that the people of the village would live peaceful lives.

Without conflict and war.

And yet although those two were so close,

They were so far from each other.

That was the other thing I saw.

A wall that separates the two.

One that cannot be broken.

No matter how many times they may try to break it.

When they tried to touch each other, they got sent flying backwards to their side of the lake.

It's not as if they can't cross over to the other side of the lake.

But they just can't touch each other.

Can't reach for each other's warmth.

You could see the crestfallen faces of theirs clearly in the moonlight.

Unbefitting for they who look so pretty.

How they long for each other although they are so close.

There was once a legend which told of this lake where two guardian goddesses guarded it from evil to protect the villages residing in the forest.

It told of how these two were actually twins, separated at birth to take care of their respective side of the lake.

Yet they knew of each other and would meet at the surface of the lake on a full moon to see their other half.

However, after their first meeting, they longed for each other, to feel the other's warmth.

At first, they tried to put their fingers together. But that just resulted in them getting sent flying back to their side of the lake.

So they began setting to break the spell which prevented them from reaching the other.

They would dance on the surface of the lake on the night of a full moon, singing the song of the water, trying to break the invisible wall between them.

They did this for many months. Many years. Many decades. Many centuries.

Until now, there are still sightings of something dancing on the lake on nights of the full moon.

Yet as one reaches out for it, it will disappear into the depths of the lake.

Leaving behind only a slight mist which dissipates right through your fingertips.

Leaving you with nothing but water on your hands.

Letting you feel the torture of not being able to touch something you want to.

Up till today, this legend is still passed down.

As we pray for the two goddesses success.

Until then, we will forever be in their debt.
