Hushed voices buzzed around my ears like white noise as I sorted every single thought out in my mind. A sea of bright faces surrounded me, and it felt like I was trapped in the middle of it all, isolated from the lively banter. Unlike Jiyong, I was awful at public speaking and couldn't enunciate a single vowel in front of more than ten people at a time. A reassuring hand brushed mine, and I knew that Jiyong, as confident as ever, had faith in the both of us.
"How're you feeling?"
"What does it look like I'm feeling?" I asked, avoiding his eyes.
He breathed out a long exhale before smiling at me. "Whatever it is, I take it that it's not good."
I nodded quietly. A sigh escaped my lips, and I finally summed up the will to look at Jiyong. "I'm just a little...you know..."
"Nervous?"
"Nervous."
"Don't be," he reassured me, "No one's going to be angry at you if you trip up on a few words. And if you think people will judge us for being a couple, then we'll be judged together. You're not alone."
"I hope not." Breathing a sigh of content, I said, "Thank you, Ji."
"You're welcome," he replied with a nod. He quickly glanced around the room before whispering, "Any time you're ready, we can go."
"I'm ready." Unlike before, I had a feeling I really meant what I said.
Taking my hand gingerly in his, he rose to his feet, surveying the chattering guests that had finally taken their seats at the table before us. The voices quickly faded out, leaving nothing but the thickening air around us. All at once, my legs began to wobble and my head started to spin. I was sure I was about to collapse until a hand grasped my back, holding me upright. My fearful eyes met Jiyong's, and he sent a reassuring smile my way, transferring his comforting strength into my body. Once I had regained control of myself, I turned to face the silent audience.
"Ladies and gentleman," Jiyong announced, "Thank you all for attending. Our company's president, Yang Hyun Suk, has provided us with a delicious variety of food in celebration of our successful world tour. Before that is served, Yoo Jae Hwa and I have been given the honor to give a few words on the past year."
My hands, sweating profusely and clutching the skirt of my shimmering gold dress, softly shook, but I managed to keep them under control. All I had to do was endure this for a few more minutes, and that was definitely doable. This was for Jiyong, after all.
"The moment a world tour was proposed for the entire YG Family, I knew that we were in for one hard year," Jiyong began, projecting his voice across the entire room, "I knew that nothing would be easy. From the organization to the execution, I knew that every single step would take everyone's full effort. I'll be completely honest, there were some times when I was worried that we'd never pull through. The very first performance was probably one of the scariest things that I had experienced in a long time."
At that moment, his eyes softened, and a small smile crept upon his lips. "But something magical happened that night. The concert went outstandingly well, and the fans were happier than ever to see us up on that stage. From then on, there was a bit of backstage drama, but I'm proud to say that the band and the staff were all so helpful in sorting it out." I scanned the crowd until my eyes landed upon Seunghyun. His piercing eyes were pointed directly at Jiyong, but unlike the hatred that had been there before, it was more of a state filled with understanding. "To everyone in this room tonight, I'd like to thank you. Thank you for all the help and support and effort you put into making this tour happen. It truly showed through the success of our work."
