'I've got an idea' he said, a smile tugging the at corner of his mouth.
'Yes, it happens sometimes. Is there something specific this idea is about?' I replied sarcastically.
'About a way to explain love' he said, stepping towards me.
My breath caught in my throat, we used to come up with ideas about how explain love, crazy, surprisingly accurate ideas. Before ours became forbidden. 'Care to share?' I muttered, my voice breaking at the end.
'Well,' he said stepping so close I could feel his breath on my cheek. 'Every couple has a candle. Some couples never even light their candle,' there was a gentleness in his voice that I hadn't heard in so long. It made me ache for his sweet touch.
'Some couples light it but it's weak and flickers out pretty soon.' He smiled and brought his hand up to rest upon my shoulder.
'Sometimes candles burn really bright but their candle melts. Those are usually what causes divorces, they used up all their love.' By now his hand were tangled in my hair and my stomach was doing cartwheels.
'And our love, it burned brighter then any star or fire, it will last longer then any building or planet, because our love is the brightest, strongest thing I ever seen in heaven or earth and God, does it feel good.'
He sounded almost breathless as he brought his lips to mine, my face cupped between his hands and the words ''I love you'' hanging, unspoken between us.
We held each other like it was our last moment on earth. It might as well been as we could never have each other again.
