We galloped to the other horses and skid to a stop. I inhaled the fresh summer air as Kathy patted my neck, she loosened the reins and we went on a slow, steady walk around the border. I rotated my ears to the squeaking of the leather saddle, we walked to a grassy patch under the oak tree by the pond next to my best friend, a Frost Appaloosa named Apple. Kathy replaced my bridle with a halter and loosened my cinch. She pulled two carrots out of her saddle bags and handed them to us.

I ate them while staring into the open sky. Before, I had no happiness, no freedom, no pride. I was sick, emotionally and physically, with nothing to look forward to. But now, I look forward to everyday. I have more than anything than I ever wanted. Freedom, friends, a real owner, and love. There is no other gift greater than that.

Kathy took my saddle off and set them in the tack room on the saddle stand as she left me in my old stall, I rolled around in the fresh shavings. Ahhhh..... I stood up, sipped my water, and licked my salt lick. I rested in my stall for several minutes before Kathy took me out in the pasture with the other horses.

"Good Night, Cracker Jack," She kissed my nose and walked inside her house. With the moonlight shining down lightly on the pond and grass, I walked to the herd and grazed. The gentle wind blew through my mane and the owls and whippoorwills played a silent lullaby. The night was very blissful and relaxing. I seem to never have any negitive emotions here, I am never confused, worried, sad, or angry. Here thinks always make sense, things always turn out the way should, and right when things could never get any better, it does.

This is just a regular night for me.
