The second he said Hale, I got short of breath. I fell to my knees. My I was staring at the ground and I could feel my eyes glowing. "Hey," Derek said, " Are you okay?" " Do I look okay to you?" I said as I looked up at him, my eyes glowing bright red. I could feel the rest of myself shifting, but I kept it in control. " Okay you need to come with me." Derek said. I started to get up and walked over towards him. My head was still staring at the ground because I didn't want him thinking that I couldn't keep control of myself. He started running and I followed him. We went down a few hallways and then through a door. All of the sudden we were back in the middle of the woods again. It was pitch black. For once, I made my eyes change to red on my own. I saw Derek was doing the same. " We need to get you out of here." Derek started to say. "Yeah no shit, I mean we are kind of in the middle of the woods." I responded. It felt a little better to use my usual level of sarcasm. " No I don't mean just out of the woods, I mean out of town. " He said. " Where?" I asked. " Beacon Hills," he replied, " It's about 40 miles south of here. If we ran, we'd be there in about an hour. We'll stop at your house first to get anything that you need because you won't be coming back." It took me a second to process this. I wasn't ever coming back here. I was starting to think that just because I was related to him didn't mean that I had to do everything he told me to. "Why should I go with you?" I said. His response was almost immediate, " Because we're cousins. Your dad, his name is Peter Hale, he's my uncle. You also have a twin sister. Her name is Malia." Holy shit. That was a lot of information to take in all at once. I looked out into the woods and I thought about what would happen if I went to Beacon Hills. Wouldn't my family call the cops when I realized that I wasn't there in the morning? " What would we do about my parents?" I asked him. " Nothing, eventually the cops will stop looking for you and it will be forgotten about." He said. " What about the police in Beacon Hills, won't they be notified about a missing person?" I asked him. " Trust me, the police in Beacon Hills have enough to deal with, plus the sheriff knows all about the supernatural. His son does to." He said. I only had one thing in mind the entire time though. " Why did you come for me?" I asked. Derek looked away for about a minute. " Because I need your help."
I didn't say anything. I just took of sprinting towards my house. I could here Derek following me. Once we got there, I climbed up the side of the house to the roof. I quietly opened my window and stepped into my room. I quickly gathered my things and put them in a small bag. I opened the window back up and stepped on to the roof. I walked up to the edge of it and threw my bag over. Then I jumped off following it. Derek was still waiting down there, but he seemed surprised that I actually came. " Ready?" He asked. I nodded my head. Then he took of running into the woods. I half smiled before taking of after him into the darkness of the woods.
Derek was right. It took us about an hour to run all the way to Beacon Hills. We stopped right on a cliff that overlooked the entire city. I didn't know that my eyes were still glowing until Derek spoke up. " Your eyes, they're still glowing." Why does that keep happening. "Oh," I said, "sorry." As I blinked revealing my normal eyes. It was quiet for a couple of minutes until Derek spoke up. " How long have you been an Alpha?" I hesitated before saying, " 2 years." Then it was that awkward silence again. I pulled my phone out of my pocket. It read 4:47 AM. I was just putting it away when Derek said "I think we should go, we need to get back to my house, you'll be staying there. In a few days I'll enlist you in the high school." High school? So it was bad enough that I had to come back here but to go back to school just sucked. "I need you to blend in with everyone else, keep an eye on them. That's why I had you come." Derek said. " Can't you just do it yourself, you made me leave my home just so I could look out for a couple of teenagers." I said. " Not just a couple of teenagers, they're supernatural. There's a Banshee, a kitsune, a beta, a werecoyote, and a true alpha, just like you." He said, " Things in this town have gotten bad lately and I just can't watch out for everyone. But I need to make sure that you don't get noticed by them. Because if you do, I don't think they'll be very happy." Well that wasn't going to be easy.
I started to think that if I ran fast enough that I could make it back home before school started.
" Do you play lacrosse." Derek asked. " Yeah, actually." I said. " Because pretty much everyone there plays, and that seems to be where most of the bad stuff happens.
We start waking to Derek's house. When we get there we walk all the way to the top floor to his apartment. Just before he opens the door, I ask him, " Does anybody else live here?" Derek hesitated to answer so I started to listen to him heartbeat, of corse it started to rise when he said, " No, it's just me here." "Stop lying, seriously. Is there anything else that you lied about to me before?" He half smiled after I said that. "I really didn't want you to know this, but your dad lives here with me." Derek said. He then opened the door.
"Well," a voice said in the distance, "You must be my newly found son."
