Dear journal,
Today I came back to competitive cheer for the first time in a couple of weeks. My friend, Karla, pulls up in front on my house in her black jeep wrangler. I grab my blue water bottle and run out the door.
Her car is always clean and smells fabulous. Her mom is driving so I'm stuck in the backseat. Karla is this gorgeous, tall, tan girl that is on my team. The ride is practically silent until her mom starts talking about school. Turns out she starts a week before me.
After a short car ride filled with small talk the car stops in front of the gym. I give my thanks before running up to the door. The front door is always really heavy so it takes me a second to pull it open. As soon as you walk in you are in the pro shop where you can buy all their cute clothes and bows! There is a big poster today that says RENT-A ROYAL-CAT. The big team at our gym is royal cats. They are the team we send to worlds and is full of talented and pretty people. Seriously, every one of them could be a model, even the boys.
If you keep walking you get to the bathrooms which used to be 2 boys room and a girls room. Now they are all unisex. Then once you get to the bathroom you hear the loud pounding cheer music. As soon as you pull open the metal door the heat of no air conditioning hits you as well as the full volume of the music. I say hi to some teammates then go to stand in front of the fan. "CROWN CATS!!" That's my cue. We all stand up and start running. After that is stretching. We start to work stunts as well.
After warming up Coach Mike tells us to go to our routine formation. Of course I have no idea where I go. Mike asks the team "who remembers where Campbell is?" I wait for the humiliating moment where everyone points to the back. They all point at me. I'm about to tell them it's not funny when I realize they aren't pointing at me they are pointing at the front. Me. In. Center. I'm about to start hyperventilating! Like seriously! This is a dream come true!
The rest of practice goes by and I'm all giddy. I work extra hard on my jumps and tumbling. I don't want to let my team down.
