One Year Later

"We have to be creative, Logan!" I tell him for the umteenth time. "We need to be memorable!"

"I can't believe you guys still haven't submitted an application," Chase mutters. "You've been talking and joking about which challenges you guys would be good at for a year."

"The perfect application video is not something you do on a whim," I tell him plainly.

Logan tilts his head to the side, leaning into the hammock the resort has strategically placed under the palm trees near the wide, stone patio. We're cuddled up together in the net, trying not to melt on this hot, sunny summer day in Costa Rica. Chase has come to meet us in the lounge area to help strategize for our Amazing Race application video that we want to record while we are out here.

Chase has a mocktail in his hand, and he's sprawled out in another hammock across from us, wearing board shorts and nothing else. It's been a year since he called off his wedding, and he wanted to celebrate his year of sobriety with his closest friends at a resort in Tamarindo. Logan and I eagerly accepted the invitation, desperate for relaxation after spending the last three months renovating the house we bought near Boulder.

"What if you do some kind of dance?" Chase suggests, but Logan and I both shake our heads.

"Stella can't dance," Logan says at the same time I say, "I can't dance." I shift my gaze to him and scowl. I can admit I can't dance, but he can't.

Logan's eyes move from Chase to his hand where his phone sits, and he reads a message that just came in. He suddenly shifts forward and says, "Hunter asked for a quick call. I'll be back in five minutes." He leaves me swinging in the net, and I watch him dash off the patio, pulling the phone to his ear.

I slide my eyes to Chase with a smirk playing on my lips.

"See? Calling him on vacation?" I state with a knowing look, but he just laughs.

"Logan said Hunter is dating some guy in Boulder. He is convinced she has absolutely no interest in him," he tells me, but I just roll my eyes.

Every time I pop into his work, I swear she grimaces. I think she thought I was going to be a fling, short-lived and out of her hair in a few weeks. But now Logan and I live together and just planned a trip to New Zealand for next year. We're still grossly smitten, and honestly, if he asked me to marry him already, I would say hell yes.

I've had the best year of my life with him. He's forced me to buy hiking clothes and traverse all over Colorado with him, while I have made him try every wine bar we come across. He's shown me new restaurants while I've shown him the men's department at Nordstrom. He still loses something every few weeks, but it helps that he's dating someone who helps keep his life on track.

"Well, she keeps pulling him away for work calls," I mutter in annoyance. "I swear his phone has been glued to his hand since he got here. He's seemed so distracted."

"Are you sure it's work that's distracting him?" Chase asks, but I shrug.

"What else would it be?" He's not able to answer because Callum comes barreling onto the patio, looking winded.

"Alright, I found this really cool lookout point. You guys have to come check it out," he tells us, but I am really comfortable, swaying in the hammock.
