Later on in the afternoon I walked to a small corner store with my brother, we bought some milk and a small bag of jelly beans. Max was still uneasy about yesterday night, I could see it in his face. "Max? Are you alright?" I asked. "Yeah..I think so." he said. "Hey, you know you could always move your bed into my room." I told him. "Really Cara?! You'll let me?" he said with a big smile. "Of course! I kno how scared you were last night." I said. "Thanks Car." he said. We walked back home, and my parents helped move Max's bed into my room. "Hey, you know there's nothing to be afraid of Max." I heard my dad talking to my brother. " You guys were just tired from the long car ride." my dad told him. We washed up after dinner and got ready for bed. Max's bed was right beside mine, and I looked over at him. He was reading a comic about a superhero or something. "Hey Max, we should get some sleep." I said. "Yeah, I'm tired." he said. "Goodnight Cara." he said as he laid down. "Goodnight." I said with a yawn.
My eyes shot open. I felt like I hadn't been sleeping at all, I leaned over and looked at my alarm clock. It read 10:03pm, I looked over at Max's bed to find that he wasn't under the covers. He wasn't there. I didn't want to wake my parents up, so I crept down the hall to see if Max was in the washroom. "Max?" I whispered. He didn't answer, and the bathroom light was off. When I started heading back to my room, I felt a cool breeze. I looked over the banister and saw that the front door was open. I walked downstairs, and peeked outside the door. I heard Max laughing, and I called out to him. I slipped on my shoes and ran outside yelling his name. Through the darkness I looked over to the swing. "Max!" I shouted. He was swinging and laughing hysterically. As soon as he heard me shout he looked in my direction. I saw a flash shoot through his eyes, and he fell to the ground. "Oh my gosh! Max!" I screamed. I ran and picked him up off the ground.
My parents heard my screams and rushed outside. I told them what I saw and they called 911. An ambulance came and some paramedic came to check out Max. They told us that he felt very warm and he had a fever of 103 degrees. They didn't have an explanation for the flash that shot through his eyes, however they told us that he was probably just sleep walking. We sat Max down on the couch and asked him if he remembered anything. He said that he had no clue what we were talking about and that he just wanted to go to sleep. So, we brought him a big glass of water and took him upstairs to bed. He fell asleep right away and so did I.
The next morning Max's fever was gone but he said he still felt weird. We tried to make him remember what happened but he still looked at us like we were crazy. "Hey kids, we're going to check out your new school today!" my mom said. "Oh cool!" Max said. I guess Max over excited himself when he said that because right after he had a massive cough attack. "Oh Max, maybe we should just go another day when you're feeling better." my mom said. "No, no I'll be fine mom!" he said. "If you say so." she said with a smile. "Mom?" I said- "strange things keep happening, two nights in a row something happened. First it as that person and now it's Max." "Oh honey." my mom said- "You're freaking yourself out. You know moving to a new city can be overwhelming- I cut her off. "I know what I saw mom. There was a person standing outside my window, and I am not just overwhelmed. " I said with anger in my voice. "Cara, listen to me you need to stop this. You're going to freak your little brother out." she said calmly. As tears started to well in my eyes, I ran upstairs and slammed the door shut.
Why doesn't she believe me? I picked up my phone and started texting Mileena. I had just sent the message when Max slowly walked into my room. "Cara, why are you upset?" he asked. "I don't know Maxy. I'm just a little stressed out, that's all." I said. I really didn't want to freak him out. "Hey, you haven't called me Maxy since I was really little." he said. "Haha, you're right." I said.
I smiled at him and he smiled back. "Hey, let's go and check out our new school!" I said to him. "Yeah! I'm so excited to meet new friends!" he said. "Hey Cara?" he said. - "I love you." Max never tells me he loves me, so I was surprised when he said it. "I love you too Maxy." I said.
