Epilogue | Flags of Remembrance, Nine Lost Treasures

A little figure trudged through the snow, fatigued and dizzy; it did not even enough strength to keep its petite, dangerously lithe body standing upwards. It resolved with so much power to do what it carefully planned to do, but even that seemed impossible.

The winds became increasingly harsh, each one like a paint brush, coating in one slick movement the Eevee with layers upon layers of cold ice. Still, the Eevee pushed itself to keep going, while it struggled to hold nine strange objects that were placed all over its body, in an attempt to bring all these items up to the top of the mountain in only one go.

Although the Eevee had attempted with much determination to alter the usual structure of the objects, which happened to be flags on this faithful day, they still turned out quite weighty and were a strain for the creature's muscles. Tears of anger and desperation streamed down the Pokemon's face like rivulets, adding to the struggle of walking in a slope.

Finally, the Eevee made it to its destination; the peak of Mt. Silver; the source of much pain throughout its years. Once, it reminiscenced, it used to spend its time up here crying terrible tears, which the Eevee looked back upon disappointingly, starkly. With a shake of her head to clear her mind, she dropped the luggage she was carrying, a relief, and began to dig nine deep, little holes, in a semi-circle, around the edge of the mountain, the displaced snow soaring off the cliff, landing on rigged precipes.

When she had finished, Eva picked up one of the flags, placing it with caution into the first hole she had dug, and then covering the spot with more snow to allow the flag to stand. She did the same with the rest of the pits, but made sure to plug the middle one with a brown piece of cloth fastened to a brown stick, the banner taller than the rest.

She looked back at her handy work, tears falling silently by her side.

The first flag, on the left side of the semicircle, had pink cloth, which was held on the same wood pole the rest of the flags were tied to. It rustled in the wind, and the Eevee thought only one word of it.

Love.

She began to remember that moment back at the tree hollow, where she had asked her family what made the tree hollow their home. Sylveon had answered love.

The next flag was green. Peace... Leafeon's answer.

Purple came after, a reminder of her sister, Espeon. She replied with "coming memories."

The darkness we will suffer and eventually triumph through. Black. Umbreon.

She skipped the flag in the middle, purposely going to the yellow flag, the alpha, Jolteon. All the drama and action.

Light blue; Glaceon; all the time we spend.

The passion and commitment we put into it; the red banner; Flareon.

And lastly, "All the emotions formed here that flows through our soul"; Vaporeon; dark blue.

With melancholy, Eva took a look at the highest, tallest flag, her own answer. "Every single one of you. The people who mean the most to me. My family."

She thought to each of the answers; she had lost love and peace, the coming memories turned out to be terrible, the darkness they had not triumphed through, all the drama and action had ended up breaking them, the time they spent was severed and destroyed by darkness, the passion and commitment had been burned down, the emotions were all negative...

And the family who had once meant the most to her were the ones who had been the beings to wreck her.

There. They were honored. But as if she would forget it anyway.

Walking up slowly to her flag, the Eevee nestled around it, soaked by her tears and drowned in sadness.

Every single one of you. The people who mean the most to me. My family.

The statement that had once been the strings that held her heart together was now the one that had caused her heart to burst.

They had promised. They had promised the family would never be apart. But look where it all ended up now?

It's true, Eva whispered to herself,

Some wounds never heal.

The end.
