Hours later, I had a small bag packed and was motivating myself to make the trip. I didn't plan on being gone for too long but checked the fridge to make sure everything would still be good and the bills were paid up. I needed to concentrate on what I had to do. Setting the bag by the door, I tried to think, if I left a note or told them where I was going. A knock decided for me.
"Wow. Meeting me at the door." Shannon came in, smiling when he saw me. "I like that."
He wrapped his arms around me. It was so comfortable. I set me head on his shoulder and took in the smell of his hard work day.
"It feels so good to hold you. The day was so long." He sighed. "How was your appointment?"
"It was alright. The same as always." I moved my head back to look into those beautiful eyes. No sense in holding things back. "Jared's home."
"Really? That's great! I can't wait to see him." Shannon was excited, then noticed how casual I was being. "Is something wrong? I thought you missed him too."
"I did. And he missed being home."
"What is it?"
I took a deep breath. "You told me how he felt but I didn't think it was so deep. I thought we could just talk it out."
"What do you mean?" He stepped back, stood straight and his expression changed. "What did he do?"
"It wasn't his fault. He doesn't know what's been happening here." I shook my head.
Shannon started to get angry. "Did he? Did you have....?"
"Shannon don't be angry. He had no idea. He was just being expressive."
"I'll show him expressive." He turned and bolted out the door, going across the hall.
I ran over behind him, catching the door before it closed.
"Hey Bro. Surprise." Jared's voice was cheerful.
"You fucked her?!" Shannon questioned with authority.
I stepped into the room and between the brothers. Jared looked at the scene confused.
"Excuse me?"
"You're not home for a day and you fucked her!" His eyes were blazing.
"Shannon stop please." I begged, pushing against his shoulders.
"It happened in the moment. I just missed her so much. You know that. I.... Oh shit!" Jared must have realized where the anger came from. "Well that didn't take you long."
"Why can't you just junk before you act on things?" Shannon demanded.
"Both of you. Please stop. Don't do this. I can't stand to come between you." I felt like crying.
"It's always something."
"Look. I have to go away for a few days. It'll kill me if I know the two of you are fighting."
Jared got concerned. "Where are you going? Is it because of what happened?"
"A little bit. I need to sort myself out but I want to see both of you when I get back. Please try not to hurt each other."
Shannon looked at his brother, still angry. "Fine. But I can't be here with you."
"Where will you go?" Jared asked.
"Just stay at my place. I'll be gone. You're both important to me. Just remember that please." I reasoned.
They seemed to be staring each other down with a combination of anger and confusion. I needed to figure out a decision that wouldn't hurt either of them.
"I'll call to let you know that I'm okay. I won't be gone long, just a few days. When I get back we can sit down together and hopefully clear things up. Alright?" I wanted to know they'd still be here.
"I'm not going anywhere." Shannon nodded.
"Me either." Jared agreed.
I sighed. "Good. I'll see you in three days."
As if it were a normal thing, I hugged Jared, then Shannon, who held me tight before letting me go. It was so hard to leave them and not be worried what may happen.
