After an emotional, exhausting day, a good nights sleep felt fantastic. Waking up in my old bed, the soft downe mattress and heavy blankets were like a comforting hug. The sunlight came through the window, making me smile with the memory of so many mornings waking up that way. I got up, showered, dressed, made the bed and went for breakfast. Walking into the kitchen, I saw my parents sitting at the island with coffee and toast, just like they'd done everyday.
"Hey. Good morning." Mom said when she saw me.
"Morning." I replied,
"Are you okay?" Dad asked, looking concerned.
I shrugged. "Just remembering."
He sighed relieved. "Come on. Have something to eat. Then we'll talk about your problems."
"Mom told you?"
"Yeah. If there's a chance that one of these men truly love you, then I want you to make the right decision. If we can help you to be happy, it's worth it."
"I don't understand why it's so hard to decide."
"Oh sweetie." Mom stood up and walked over. "From what you've told me, they're both good men. You don't want to hurt either of them."
"I care for them both so much."
"I'm sure that you do. But which is the best one for you? Who will give you what you need?" Dad joined us.
"But if I don't know what I need, how can they?"
"One of them will. Come on, tell us everything. We'll figure it out."
Mom put an arm around my shoulders and led me to the island. We sat and had our first family meal in years. It was amazing how much clearer things became when you had someone to talk to. I saw things better after spending that time with my parents, like when I was younger.
I woke up the next day happier than I expected to be but nervous about the conversation that had to take place. After having breakfast, and promising to visit more often, I got back in my car and drove home to LA.***********************
Sorry for the short chapter but needed to get back to the drama at the apartment. Just a little transition.
