(Alex and Tyler, 5 years old)

December had been a busy month. Castle had tried to explain Santa to the boys, but they seemed uninterested in Santa and more in the receiving of presents. They are only five and all they care about is obtaining new gifts, Castle thought to himself as the boys entertained themselves by banging on the piano.

Castle cringed, "Boys I think it's nap time." Alex and Tyler both got out their puppy dog faces. "Come on. You can sleep in my bed"

(One hour later)

Castle had successfully managed to get Tyler asleep but Alex was having trouble, so Castle rocked him while reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night".

Castle looked down at Alex to see if he had gone to sleep yet, but instead saw a disapproving look that matched his mother's. "What are you scowling for?" Castle asked starting to tickle his sides.

Alex pushed his hands away and said boldly "he needs to shave".

Castle let out a suppressed laugh trying not to wake Tyler. "You got that from your mommy didn't you?" Alex smiled and nodded tiredly against Castle's cheek before drifting off to sleep.

(Christmas Morning)

The boys had probably woken up at about one in the morning. It was obvious due to the bags under their eyes as they lay half asleep under the tree while Tyler cuddled with one of his presents.

Johanna ran through the living room. Aiming to kick Alex in the shin to wake him up, she ungracefully tripped and fell on top of him instead.

Alex didn't even respond to the tumble his sister had take.

After managing to get both twins awake, and waiting on Martha to get home with their usual Christmas donuts, they started opening their gifts.
The first present Alex opened was from Martha. It was a pair of Hogwarts socks.

"Oh come on," he rubbed his eyes and glared disappointedly at the socks. "This isn't a very good way to start off Christmas."

"Alex, be thankful," Beckett reprimanded.

"It ain't thanksgiving. That was last month. Get your holidays straight, lady," Alex sassed.

Beckett gave the most menacing glare ever seen by mortal eyes.

"I mean, thank you so much, Gram" he said wide eyed with no emotion, almost like a robot, staring at Beckett like she was a wild bull about to charge.

"Better", Beckett commented.

"Say more things like that and maybe we won't end up with broken noses this year", Tyler whispered, staring at Beckett cautiously while grabbing his closest present. It was his turn to open one. But Alex couldn't seem to wait.

"You're taking WAY too long!" Alex grabbed eight more of his presents, returned to his spot on the couch and started ripping them open one right after the other.

"Calm down, son," Castle hesitantly scolded.

"He's talking to you," Alex leaned over to Tyler, who had just opened a laser tag vest just like the one he gave Alexis when she was five. Alex also got one.

"Ya. Cause I'M the one that needs to lay off the fudge brownies ." Tyler didn't even look at Alex as he spoke, but he knew he had stuffed four brownies into his mouth right after making his smart comment.

Castle knew where this was heading.

"How about we play some laser tag while the girls get lunch ready?"

The boys' faces immediately brightened as they scurried around the room to find their brand new vests.

"Person with the highest score wins round one," Castle tells them.

(After laser tag)

"Lunch is ready," Martha calls.

"Be there in a second, Mother. We need to see who won," Castle explained.
Alright boys, what are your scores?"

Both Alex and Tyler looked down at the blinking lights of their vest, but neither could tell what the number said or how high it was.

Castle saw this and glanced at both of the boys' scores. "Alex, my man, you won."

Tyler opened his mouth, looking like an over exaggerated cartoon character after the main characters kiss. "What? You beat me? How?"

"Because I got a higher score, Doofus." Alex paused for a moment. "And I'm better than you," smugly, he took off his still blinking vest and ran to the kitchen to pile his plate with food, leaving Tyler in the dust, still standing there with his over exaggerated cartoon look.
