"Ronny, look at that." Poppy nudged Ronny with her elbow to dig into his bony side. He looked up from his book he was reading to look at a teenage girl and her mom. The mom was talking to the daughter, smiling. But the girl was on her cell phone, her fingers typing away.

The mom soon noticed that the daughter wasn't listening and just sighed, immediately frowning, and looked away. However, the daughter didn't seem to notice this at all because she was too absorbed in her cell phone.

"Isn't it ridiculous on how much you could miss out in the world if you don't listen or pay too much attention. Now I'm not saying you always have to be alert all the time or anything, but sometimes people should be. Don't you think? Sometimes people do not realize how much they miss out until its gone."

Ronny couldn't agree more. He glanced at the finished food shared between the two of them and picked it up and went to throw it away. They were at the food court in the mall, sitting and talking. Well - Poppy did most of the talking today since he was reading his book while she chatted. Of course, she knew he was listening, Ronny always listened.

Always.

He glanced at her, just for a moment while she wasn't gazing at him and talking away. Right now, she was looking far away, she was here physically, but not mentally at the moment. Her hair was thrown up into a careless bun, and her face was rid of any makeup (she rarely wore any as it is). She had her legs propped up in another seat and her arms were crossed. A frown was etched on her face, and, at that moment, Ronny wanted nothing more than to remove that frown.

"Wanna hear a joke?" he asked in a simple tone, bookmarking his place, and closing the book so he'd have his full attention on her.

She looked over at him, and shrugged, "Sure."

He licked his dry lips. "Okay," he said, "what kind of crackers do firemen like in their soup?" She didn't answer, just simply stared at Ronny and waited for him to answer.

He grinned real big, and said, "Firecrackers."

To Ronny's delight, not only did he get a small smile, but also a chuckle from Poppy.
