Aubrey's POV

I woke up to the sound of a soft sounding alarm. A cool feature in our new house was the surround sound alarm and music player. Jade and I had set the alarm to play through the whole house, followed by a 5 minute pause until the local radio played. I tapped the air and sang quietly to the familiar songs. Finally, with great struggle, I managed to pull myself heavily out of bed and out to the kitchen.
"Hey, Jade," I greeted with a smile. She now made a healthy smoothie with our cool new cooking appliances. As a welcoming gift, our mom had sent us a set of mint coloured cook ware, including a mint coloured blender, mixer, cake folder, pasta maker, toaster and chopper. After she made hers, I threw in my favourite green smoothie ingredients; Mango, Pineapple, celery, spinach, cucumber, coconut water and ground ginger. We pulled out some 'on the go' cups which held our healthy breakfasts while we went upstairs to get dressed. I sipped on my drink as I scanned my closet carefully. In the end, I just chose a pink and white striped cocktail dress and a set of silver bangles and a silver necklace. I then threw my hair into a high pony before making my way downstairs to watch some X factor. Not long after, Jade joined me. We sipped quietly at our smoothies, pitching in here and there when we knew the song.
"Hey, we should head out," I noticed. She nodded in agreement as we put our to go cups in the dish washer and head out to our cars.
"Meet you there," I told her, heading off into my white Honda.
The drive wasn't long since it was close to the hike trail to the Hollywood sign near our neighbourhood. We pulled up almost at the same time, parking our cars carefully in the designated spot.
My phone suddenly buzzed dramatically.
"Hello?" I greeted, excited when the phone screen read Kian's name.
"Hey, you busy right now?"
"I'm actually in the parking lot of singing school, why?"
"Well," he began. "You and Jade can come over tonight. We're having a party with some friends, but the two of you are welcome," he invited.
"Cool, I'll let her know," I replied while stepping into the building.
"Okay, see you!"
I hung up the phone, prioritizing the information to Jade who seemed down for it.
"Oh yeah, I'll go," she said confidently, nodding her head.
"Okay, cool. See you after solo lessons?"
She nodded as we went our separate ways. I stepped into the large room, which surprised me that it was just for me right now. This is where I would spend lots of my time.
Nobody was in the room, so I placed my bag into a locker in the entrance before admiring the set up. There were thousands of switches in buttons to modify voice and add double over- it was better then anything Jade and I had worked with.
"Hello, uh- Aubrey?" I heard a voice ask innocently.
"Yes?" I replied turning around to a young guy, about my age.
"I'll be working with you and your voice this week," he announced, flipping through a note pad.
"How are you an instructor?" I asked shamelessly. "You're my age!"
"Yeah, I do the production. My dad owned a studio, I'd say I'm pretty good," he said, winking.
I rolled my eyes as I sat down.
"Okay, teach me."
"Well, let's see what you've got," he began, putting his note pad down. "Sing for me."
"Sing what?" I asked, confused.
"Anything that suits you."
"Okay," I said, coughing carefully to balance my tone. I began singing the lyrics to the well known song heart break cover up, when he put his hand up. My heart dropped nervously;
Was I bad?
"I need you to go in the recording studio- like now," he said, spinning his chair to the voice modifying station.
"Wait- no training?" I asked, confused.
"No, you know what you're doing. I think we can record right now," he said plainly.
"Oh wow, okay!"
I got up into the recording booth, placing the sound cancelling headphones carefully on my head.
"Okay, simple song this week- were working with Hey there Delilah," he announced. "You know it?"
"I do," I replied, modifying my position.
Loose tongue, loose shoulders, breathe through the stomach, I remembered my former musical theatre teacher's advice. I placed my hand on my belly to make sure I was breathing right when I started to sing. It was so cool to be in a real recording studio with real equipment. I assumed it was going well from the nodding motion he kept making through my performance.
"Great, only two more times, okay?"
I nodded, taking a quick sip of the water beside me, before signing it again. And a final time.
"Wow, you're very naturally talented," he told me as I came out of the studio.
"Aw, thank you."
The rest of the day we went over some slight improvements and tips, when we were dismissed for group practice.
Here I saw Jade, a smile glued to her face.
"That was so neat," she gasped.
"Oh I kn-"
"Okay, come on. Stop talking, this is real life not preschool," the woman growled, scarring me.
We went over vocals, although constantly being interrupted because someone always was doing something 'wrong'.
"Smile!"
"Wrong note, Anthony!"
"Come on, loose tongue!"
"Quiet when you take a breath, guys!"
Finally, she looked at Jade and I who exchanged high fives as we did well in the vocal range test.
"A true singer never rubs it in with the other competition," she ordered, giving us a dirty glare.
"We just high fived," Jade protested innocently, giving me a look of fear.
"Okay, what- are you two B-F-F's or something?"
"Kind of," I replied, a little terrified. "We're sisters."
"Okay, well enough with the distractions," she growled.
The rest of the class was horrible. She was never happy with our results, until finally we were dismissed to go home.
"Okay, I'm done with you all," she groaned. "Go home, try harder next class!"
I stepped out of class with Jade, both of us almost literally trembling.
"What?" Jade asked, her face both confused and scared.
"Why was she so mean? We sounded great!" I added, playing with my bracelets.
We drove down the road, in search of the guys' house, when finally we arrived.
"Sorry we're early," I apologized, rolling my eyes. "We were dismissed early."
Jc pulled Jade into a hug while I spoke with Kian.
He then also pulled me into a hug.
"I missed you."
"It's been a long day," I laughed, feeling much better.
"I know."
