Aubrey's POV

The day had just started, and it was already long and exhausting. As teenagers, Jade and I never really had jobs, other then at a bakery where we worked just for the cute co-worker. I had been in the kitchen most of the day, waiting for the ordered meals to go through, where I would take them from the island out to the tables.
"Am I serving them?" I asked Jade, as she walked into the kitchen.
"Yes, please do," she replied, looking from me to the floor.
"What's happened?" I asked, receiving her attention.
"I'll tell you later," she replied, slowly brushing off her apron. "They're at table 23."
I took her orders, taking the dishes out to where two young men sat, phone in hands.
"Hey," one greeted. His hair was a dark brown, which matched his dark brown eyes. He had a few tattoos up his arm, which lead to his red and white striped muscle top.
"Hi, here's your food," I greeted cheerfully, placing the plates gently. "If there's any problems, my names Aubrey," I finished, flashing a smile.
"Aubrey," the same one called, not at all caring about the food I had placed in front of him. "Um, do you like fairs?"
"I mean, yeah," I replied awkwardly, feeling myself turn red.
"If you want," he said looking quickly at his friend, "we could go to the boardwalk carnival tonight?"
"Oh," I said shocked, looking around awkwardly, deeply wishing Jade could pull me out of this weird situation. "I guess so," I replied, trying my hardest not to run and tell Jade.
"Cool," he said, turning red as he looked at the pen in my pouch. "Could I?"
"Sure," I replied, handing him the pen, allowing him to quickly scribble out the seven digits.
He smiled, as he handed it back to me.
Is this even a date? I wondered, continuing to stare at the drawn on napkin that sat securely in my apron. It has to be- right?
I shrugged it off, continuing my work as I went from table to table, receiving reviews on all of our dishes served.
"Do you know if there's a walking trail to the Hollywood sign somewhere?" An older lady asked me, as she placed my tip on the table.
"I believe there is, although I myself only arrived here yesterday."
"Oh," she reacted joyfully. "What brought you out here to Los Angeles?"
"My sister and I are singers," I replied, turning red.
"Oh, that's so adorable! Well thank you for the help, the best of luck!" She finished, making her way out of the shop.
"You're a singer?" The boy whom have me his number asked, as I walked over to their booth.
"Oh," I laughed nervously. "You heard that?"
"Yeah, are you any good?" he asked again, edging on.
"I- I think so?"
He nodded, smiling.
"I'm Kian by the way."
"Nice to meet you Kian," I said politely turning to his friend. "And you are?"
"I'm Jc," he replied shyly, taking another bite of his meal.
I nodded, taking there bill as they finished up and exited the restaurant.
I changed out of my work clothes, and black into my black cocktail dress and golden necklace, as Jade and I finished our shifts.
"Okay," she started excitedly. "Jc, the one with curly hair, gave me his number!"
I laughed at this, finding it convenient that we each got one of the boys' numbers, as I explained my sudden laughter; "I got the other one's number too."
"Really?" She asked, hoping in the passengers seat.
I nodded, as I started my black Ford Focus. We each had our own cars, but preferred to take one, as it was much easier.
"Tomorrow's our first day of school," she reminded me.
"Oh my goodness, right!" I gasped. "Oh, I'm so excited!"

When we got home, the two of us scarfed down our supper, simple Kraft dinner because why not, before Jade disappeared to her room, where she was clearly going to call Jc. As she talked to him, I stepped out on the deck overlooking the beach, dialling the numbers on the napkin, to hear the familiar voice from the restaurant.
"Aubrey!" he greeted, excitedly.
"Hey, Kian. When are you planning on taking me to our date?"
Silence.
I realized that I had just called it a date, when that wasn't yet clear, oh my god, I'm an idiot.
"How's an hour and a half?" He responded finally, still sounding cheery.
"That'll do," I replied, before we exchanged goodbyes and hung up.
I ran into the bathroom, where I quickly did my hair, followed by makeup, until I ran upstairs to scan my closet.
By the end of the hunt, I had chosen mint converse, fade wash jeans and a white lace top, which looked perfect with my carefully curled hair. As if it was timed, there was soon a ring at the door, which I opened to Kian. I lifted my hand over my mouth as I saw the beautiful flowers in his hand, white and purple.
"Kian, why?" I asked, inviting him inside.
"I don't know, I just thought you'd like them," he replied before gasping. "Your house is amazing."
"Our dad had it made over," I told him, as I put the flowers carefully into a glass vase.
"Is he like- rich or something?" He asked playfully.
"Yes he is," I replied blankly, internally laughing at his expression.
"Well that question was inevitable."
I smiled, walking back over to him.
"Let's go."
He nodded, taking my hand where he lead me to his black alero.
"I promise, Aubrey. You'll have an amazing time."
