Jace arrived at the hotel and went right up to the room. There was no sign of Amber, but he did see her souvenir bag laying on the couch. He knew she was back and safe, which was a huge relief. He thought to himself that he should not have made her kiss him. She had wanted to pull away and he did not let her. He called his mom for some quick advice and then he decided to call Rachel.
"Hey you, how is your vacation going?" Rachel asked when she answered her phone.
"It has been having it's ups and downs." Jace replied.
Rachel heard in his voice that something was wrong. She had got an e-mail earlier from Amber and it seemed that they were having a great time. She hoped that nothing major had gone wrong.
"What's going on hun?" She asked, sympathetically.
Jace told her about all the fun they had in Knotts Berry Farm and up until today everything was grand.
"Today was mostly good but there were a few incidents that made it a 'less' than perfect day. We found out Zack died, and then I saw her hugging a man and flipped out. It was Colt her best friend and I over reacted. I wound up clocking Amber instead of him. We got to Disneyland and everything was awesome, she kissed me and started to pull away. I didn't let her. She ran off and came back to the hotel. I am here in the room now and she isn't, but I know she is safe and that is what is important."
Rachel was dead silent on the other end of the phone. She had no idea what to say to this. She had not spoken to Amber since the night she dropped her off. She had no clue what words she could speak to Jace to make him feel better.
"Who is Zack?" Rachel decided to start off with this question.
"Amber's brother. Didn't you know she had a brother?" Jace asked shocked.
"Yes I did but she never ever told me his name. She was embarrassed by him and tried to speak as little of him as possible." Rachel could not believe her ears. Amber's brother had died and she did not tell Rachel this. Rachel was a tad hurt by this fact. "Why are you guys still there? I know that this sounds mean, but shouldn't you have come home after you found out?"
"I spoke to Debbie and she insisted that we stay, she knows Amber needs this. I did offer to get the first flight home, but she did not want us to. They are going to have something for him when we get back." Jace whispered into the phone.
Rachel could not believe it, but then again could. Debbie was always traveling and had told Rachel that she wished Amber could go too. Rachel also knew that they both were prepared for Zack to go. Rachel made a mental note to call Debbie with her condolences, she would also like to know when they were going to have the service so she could be there to support her friend and her friends mom. She could not tell what Jace was most upset about, so she decided to ask him questions one by one.
"What happened with Colt?" This was the next thing she was dying to know.
Jace told her about the whole incident at breakfast. He was still so ashamed about the way he acted,how he hurt Amber both physically and emotionally. He also told Rachel the good stuff, about how with her help, Amber had a great breakfast. He told her all about the happy time at Disneyland.
