Chapter 1
Thanking my form tutor, I quickly scanned my eyes over my new timetable. Before I had any time to look at it in detail, a shadow fell over my shoulder, and I looked up. A scowl formed on my face, contrasting with my previously neutral emotions.
"What do you want?" I asked grumpily, not bothering to turn around to face him.
"Oh, just wanted to see if we had similar lessons. Look! We have the same classes for almost everything!" Dan answered me, an arrogant smirk pasted on his lips.
He was tall, with messy auburn hair and a fringe which covered the majority of his forehead. His eyes were a bright blue, and he had high cheekbones, small nose, and a defined jaw. It was a pity that his looks were wasted; his playboy attitude certainly ruined any chance of friendship between us. Today, he was wearing a large red hoodie with baggy jeans. How come he could make messy hair, an oversized hoodie and wide jeans possibly look good?! If I came into school with a similar outfit, I'd probably be taken for a woman escaped from the local mental facility.
Dan's irritating voice lifted me out of my disturbing thoughts.
"Once you're done checking me out, I think we need to get off to lessons,"
My eyes widened and I felt my cheeks flame up. "I was not checking you out!"
Dan's smirk grew. "Whatever you say, kitten."
"My name's Kat, you dickhead." I reply, clenching my teeth.
"Whatever, kitten,"
"Shut up!"
"Sure,"
I let myself relax.
"Kitten."
With this my patience snapped, and I stormed out of the classroom.
God knew how I was going to survive a whole year with this asshole.

Maths. The only subject I knew I absolutely sucked at. And lucky me, I had it first lesson on a Monday. Yay.
Time for me to go commando. Threading the wire of my earphones through the sleeve of my shirt, I casually put my hand against my ear and listened to my music. There I was, casually listening to Centuries by Fall Out Boy and doodling on the already graffitied desk when I heard my name.
"Kat, what is 34/50 simplified?"
I pulled my earphones out and looked around. My teacher was looking at me with a smug yet irritated look on his face.
"Huh? What? Oh. It's..."
"Come on Kat, we've practised this before. In 7th grade."
My classmates snickered. Traitors.
I looked around desperately, hoping he was talking to someone else. Nope. Everyone was staring at me, waiting for an answer. Wait, not everybody. Dan was in the corner of the classroom, madly holding up fingers and mouthing.
"Oh! 17/25, sir." The teacher looked surprised, but grudgingly turned around and resumed his lecture on fractions.
I gave his back the One Finger Salute, and I heard Dan laugh. I looked at him and grinned, shrugging my shoulders. Having had enough attention that lesson, I got back to my music and resumed my doodle of me violently stabbing the maths teacher.

By the time the bell went, I had successfully engraved my name in the desk with my compass without Mr Bastard noticing, and had written 'Maths is fucked up' several times over it. I had also finished my extremely detailed and gruesome picture of me assassinating him.
Dan came up to my desk and inspected my drawings. I expertly changed the teacher's bald head into a mess of hair, quickly changing the character to Dan. He grinned in a slightly perverted way, and stated "I like them feisty."
I rolled my eyes.
"Thanks for the help back there." I tell him, ignoring his comment.
"Anything for you, kitten."
Aaand there went any ideas of friendship out the window.
