"Have you got the lock pick?" Marshall breathed.
Fionna nodded once, then repeated verbally, "Yes. Hey, you have the keycard?"
"Yeah, I think it triggers something though. Better not to use it unless it's absolutely necessary." Marshall looked up at the black sky, hovering from foot to foot as he waited for Fionna to finish with the door. She shot him a look. "Not used to this?"
"Mm... usually I get in by way of invitation. Breaking and entering isn't really my style."
"Well, the good news is that Penelope won't call the police on us." Fionna flashed him a quick smile, before standing up and opening the door.
"Hey, isn't this a little out of character for you?" Marshall asked softly.Fionna shrugged. "It's sort of like... a video game puzzle to me. To beat the monsters, you've got to get the door open first. So yeah, I can pick locks."
"A woman of many talents, eh...?" Marshall grinned, before leaning in to kiss her. "And a woman after my own heart."
She pushed him away gently. "Not now. Penelope's going to catch us and she already knows what we are. We've only got one shot at this, Marshall."He pouted. "Fine. Just so we don't end up as robots."
She smiled, before lacing her hand with his. He led her silently to the backroom, where they quickly hid behind some crates of flour after hearing someone approach.
"Got any skills as a pickpocket?" He murmured.
She shook her head, and he sighed. "I'll do it, next time they come around.""Sh, sh!" She said hurriedly, pushing him down behind the crates as the goons came out. He crawled out, sneaking up behind them and hurriedly grabbing one of their keycards, before retreating to Fionna. "It's not like I can turn invisible."
She nodded, conceding the point, before he swiped the keycard through the holder and they slipped inside of the room."In, get a sample of the powder, and out, right?" Fionna reviewed.
Marshall nodded once. "And if you wanna shoot Penelope if we come across her... I would be up for that."
Fionna shook her head. "Nah, I don't have my swords. But if I did, it would be an algebraic battle, with--"Marshall clapped a hand over her mouth and pulled her into a nearby room. "Okay, that would be pretty awesome, but I'm worried Penelope's gonna catch us unaware in the hallway while you're imagining taking her out."
Fionna nodded, then noticed their surroundings. They had somehow found their way to a recently used locker room which still had steam wafting through it."Grab a uniform, and keep your head down." She suggested.
"Wait, I get to--" She threw her shirt at his head, smiling a little. "Focus."
"Excuse me? I thought I was told that no flirting was allowed?" He teased.
"Yeah, and no creeping on me while I'm changing." She shot back, grinning. He rolled his eyes. "Unless you've suddenly grown a third eye in your back, I've seen it before, Fi." He turned around anyway.
"Yeah, but now we need to focus, instead of..." She trailed off, and he grinned, before turning back around. "Oh? Focus, you say? Like you totally weren't staring at my butt just now?"
She flushed, and his grin widened.
"If we give in, we're going to end up making out in the locker-room and we're not going to get anything done, if we don't get captured." She said firmly. He pouted. "We might get captured anyway. You can't really hide the fact that your anatomy isn't looking too male right now, Fi." He eyed her torso, before pulling his own shirt over his head.
She shot him a look, and he shrugged. "I haven't seen any women except Penelope wandering around." He continued. "Not that I've been looking... but it's kind of hard to miss you, Fi."
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Besides, I can take any of them in a fight." She grinned. He smiled. "Why does it always come back to fighting with you?"
"'Cause that's my job. Or, it was. Kind of. Anyway, hurry up. We need to go."
He nodded and straightened himself, before putting a cap on her head. She copied the motion with him, before tucking her hair up in it.They crept into the hall again, before straightening and walking as loosely as they could.
"Hey, you two." Someone called out.
They both stiffened, before Fionna turned. "You talking to us?"
An older man approached them. "Hell yeah, I am. Don't you two know that we're supposed to be unloading tonight's shipment? It's the last batch. I'd hate to see you two slack off and get fed to the dogs.""Erm... we have special orders from Penelope." She lied quickly.
"Yeah. We were supposed to go see her immediately." Marshall agreed, picking up the lie. "Don't know what it's about, though. Hope it's a raise-- gotta feed the wife and kids, y'know?"
The older man scrutinized them for a minute, before shrugging. "Ms. Rosser's office is down the hall. I'm not her bookkeeper, but you two are certainly new... seems like you're more likely to get yourselves killed than anything else.""Nah, it's cool." Fionna replied, trying to be dismissive.
"Ms. Rosser and us are very close." Marshall agreed. "But she's a very punctual lady, and you're busy so--"
The old man leaned in close to Marshall's face. "If I were you, I would leave. Right now, and never come back. 'Cause I doubt anything is going to happen to the two of you except a one-way ticket to the harbor, and the Hot Seat before that. Ms. Rosser doesn't take kindly to your type, and it's a miracle you've lasted this long.""Our type?" Fionna asked, frowning.
The old man scowled and turned to walk away. "You two know what I mean. Leave, before she gets you."
"Come on, Fi. He's just trying to scare the newbies." Marshall murmured to her, taking her arm.
They sneaked down the hall, before they came to the room housing the powder.Fionna opened the door, and the lights automatically turned on... to reveal Penelope, sitting calmly in a chair in a center of the room. "Honestly, how the hell did you make it this far?" She asked, a smile playing about her lips.
Two gargantuan men entered silently behind Fionna and Marshall, before grabbing them and squeezing the breath out of them. Fionna wriggled free as Marshall flopped forward, but she couldn't take the two of them alone, and was soon knocked unconscious as well.
"Do you want us to take them to the Hot Seat, ma'am?" One of the men asked gruffly.
"No, Bernard. I've got something special planned for the little agents that could." Penelope smiled wickedly, before exiting the room, her goons trailing behind her carrying Fionna and Marshall.
