Chapter 7: Classified

Merci walked into the hospital room. Nickie laid on the bed. Needles and machines were hooked up to him everywhere. His mouth was like a little child frowning. He looked harmless and weak. Nickie looked at Merci with his defenseless eyes.

Nickie asked, "Merci..?" Merci started talked, "Yes, Nickie. It's me. Kate sent me here." Nickie asked, "Is it like a see-how-you-are-feeling visit?" Merci replied, "Well... it's more of a see-what-you-know visit." Nickie asked, "What do you need to know?" Merci replied, "I need to know why your plane crashed. Kate says that she thinks it might have been sabotage. Any idea who it might be?"

Nickie explained, "I remember it plain as day. I turn on the radio. It was people talking about that secret high access project. I didn't get much info on it. The other people on the line detected that I was on it too, so they shut the power down in my plane in attempts for me to die." Merci explained, "The high access project is human mutation. If it gets into their hands, it could ultimately end up in a zombie apocalypse. Do you know how many people were on the line?" Nickie replied, "Not really... They were all boys. They sounded out age. I counted about 3, maybe 4." Merci asked, "Do you think they work within Imagine Labs?" Nickie replies, "They'd have to. Merci, did Kate include any others in on this?" Merci replied, "Yes; it's me, you, her, Stacy, Jordan, and Zoey." Nickie warned her, "Merci, listen to me. Don't trust anyone other than Kate's little group. Anyone else could be a traitor. Trust nobody." Merci assured him, "You have my word."

Zoey put on her scuba gear. She was at the site where Nickie's plane had crashed. She dove into the water and looked for the sunken plane. There it was, all battered and dented. She swam inside. Using the radio transmitter, she could potentially trace the Lab I.D. numbers of the people on it. Each employee was given an I.D. number when they were hired. Zoey pulled out a device that looked like a smartphone with a cord on it. She plugged the cord into a hole on the radio. On the device, I.D. numbers appeared on the screen:

Zoey quickly sent the I.D. numbers to Kate.

Kate told Stacy over their earpieces, "Alright, Stacy, showtime! I got the I.D. numbers; I need that distraction." Stacy walked into Art's office. Art and Lenny were talking about students. Stacy asked, "Good evening, gentlemen. I'm Stacy. It's an honor to finally meet my employers." Stacy shook hands with each of them. Stacy started going on and on about how fun it was at the lab. She explained in full detail what it was like to drive a hover car. She asked them dozens of question. As Stacy kept talking, she gave Kate the perfect window of opportunity...

Kate walked into the security room. Some of the teens looked at her and knew she didn't belong there. She barked, "Is something wrong?" Everyone turned away and acted like nothing happened. Kate checked her phone and found the 5 I.D.'s that Zoey sent her.

Kate plugged in the first I.D. number: 46; the photo of a teen named Blake popped up. The next one, 06; a photo of a teen named Kyle popped up. The third one, 57; a article popped up. It went on about a robot created in the labs named Panda who was programmed by Kyle. Then, she searched up 56; a photo of a teen named Tyler popped up. Kate plugged in the last number, 14; a photo of Samuel popped up. Kate had all the proof she needed. The only problem is that she couldn't expose them since she had the others do this investigation without authorization.

Jerry walked up to Kate. He scared her, "What'cha doin'?" Kate jumped. Her eyes met with the freshman. Nickie and Stacy have told her about how big of a tattletale he was. Kate lied, "Just doing some research on some kids, you know since I'm the new principal and stuff." Jerry pointed out, "Yet you're using a lab computer, not a school one." Nickie and Stacy didn't mention that he was clever.

Kate explained, "Yes, but down here, I can tell who's a worker and who's not." Jerry replied, "Okay, have fun." Jerry skipped off out of the security room.

Kate looked down at the computer she was on. A red pop-up appeared on the screen with an exclamation point. It read, "Warning! Actions you have just used are not of daily protocol. Please remain at your station." Kate said into her earpiece, "Jordan, now."

Jordan wandered through the control room. He found the electric switch. He stood by it and waited for Kate's order. She told him on the earpiece, "Jordan, now." He pulled it, turning off all electricity in the lab.

As the electricity went out, Kate walked out of the security room. They had successfully succeeded with their plan. All they had to do was catch them in the act of a crime.
