I was spending probably the last moments of my life thinking, "Who's fault was it this time?" As Scarclaw and Moonriver advanced, I heard Tigerstar purr smoothly, "Prove your loyalty to me. Kill these two kittypets." Gulping, I knew we trained and fought well, but by a long shot Scarclaw and Moonriver were way better warriors than us. The chanting warriors of TigerClan surrounded us and locked us in a tight box. Scarclaw stepped in and growled. Moonriver walked in and snarled, "Die impostors!"
Socks chuckled slowly, "What don't we do this one on one...?" Scarclaw made no sound and launched himself at Socks. Moonriver did the same to me. I rolled out of the way and sliced at her belly, and nimbly dashed away. Moonriver snarled at me, "Lucky strike." Then she hurled herself at me, teeth bared. I rolled away, and launched myself at Moonriver. Big mistake. She was bigger than me, and flattened me to the ground. I heard Tigerstar announce, "Oh, did I mention this was a battle? To the death." Moonriver laughed, and sent a wave of pain at my stomach. She then ripped at my throat. Blood spluttered from it and gurgled in my mouth. "No," I thought, "I don't want to die this way." With a giant heave, I threw Moonriver across the clearing. I knew I couldn't go on so I shouted, "Socks!" Socks glanced my way. With a giant groan, I burst through the ring of cats. Blood dripped around me. Limping, I dragged myself forward. Socks yelped and followed me as Scarclaw lashed out at him. "No!" I yelped as Socks was dragged right into the battle again. Moonriver ran after me. On instinct, I ran away, leaving Socks and his painful screams behind.
The cats didn't pay me any attention, they were too busy focusing on Socks dying screams. I felt weak, and blood dripped out of my body like I was a overflowing river. Scarclaw and Moonriver only taught us how to fight and hunt, not medicine cat stuff. I remembered how whenever I got hurt, my twolegs would take me to the cutter or the needle twoleg. Whatever they were called. The thoughts of a life of a kittypet had been left far behind. I struggled to remember the soft stroke of our twolegs, or the warm crackle of a fire. Shivering, I limped on. As I saw a moor, I sniffed the air. There was particular scent in the air, but it still meant I was close to clan territory. I continued my lonely limping, making sure to go around the moor.
I woke up. I never knew I feel asleep. Or maybe I didn't fall asleep. I probably passed out from blood loss. But now, my wounds were bandaged in clean white cloth, and a twoleg walked up to me. She was smiling and cooing softly, putting a bowl of clean water. Without thinking, I licked it all up and let out a string of piteous meowing. The twoleg cooed again, this time coming back with a big bowl of kitty pellets. "Food," I thought, "Food that I don't have to hunt for." I ate all of that too.
I woke up. Again! Why do I keep falling asleep? Well, I felt loads better, and I sat up and began licking my paw. Looking around, I saw that the room had to big twolegs, and two kitten twolegs. One was a big tom, the other a graceful she-twoleg. The twoleg who was graceful, in which I decided to call Grace, floated over and began stroking me softly. I yawned and nuzzled closer to her. The bigger one stomped over to my spot and kicked me. Yowling, I scurried away, but not before slashing at his leg. Big Hairy, as I started to call him, yelled at me, and chased after me. Nimbly, I dodged and raced out the door, which had a installed cat door. I heard a giant THUMP! as Big Hairy crashed into the door. Obviously, Big Hairy wasn't more brawns than brain. Without a single regard or regret for my brother, I began enjoying my new life.
