They were the closest couple, much to George's displeasure. They held hands in public, flirted constantly, and showed way too much PDA in everyone else's opinion. They were the perfect couple, so...
Why did they break up?

~Flashback Time~

"No..." Lucy whined, thrashing around once more.

"Lucy."

"No! Stop!"

"Lucy!" Lockwood gripped her shoulders and shook her gently. "Wake up!"

Her eyelids fluttered open, revealing the chocolate brown eyes underneath.

"Luce, are you okay? You were screaming bloody murder up here." Lockwood brushed a stray strand of hair out of her face.

"L-Lockwood?" Lucy gasped, looking up into his face. To his surprise, she threw her arms around his broad shoulders and started sobbing into his chest.

"You...You died..."

"What? Luce, what happened?"

"You died... You were ghost-touched..."

"Did you have a nightmare, Lucy?"

She nodded into his chest, gripping his shirt. He was still wearing his work clothes-- he most likely stayed up rather late to study their current case with George.

After a few moments of sniffling and comforting, Lockwood lifted her chin with the tips of his fingers.

"I'll never be that reckless, Luce," He shot her his gigawatt grin, letting it last for a moment before letting a serious expression cross his face. "Besides, if I died..." He inched his face towards hers, "I wouldn't be able to kiss you."

Lucy tried to process the words he said, but they all ended up in a jumbled mess as his lips gently pressed against her own. She couldn't help but notice he tasted like tea and the faintest bit of cologne. She soon started to kiss him back, attempting to put all of the passion that had built up over all of these years into her affections. His hands snaked their way around her waist and hers reached up to grip his shoulders.

Lockwood was the first to break away for some much-needed oxygen. He looked into her chocolate-colored eyes with an adorable look of childlike want and yearning.

"Lockwood..."

"I'm sorry," He shoved his hands into the pockets of his black slacks and scooted away from her. "I shouldn't have done that. I violated your privacy and space. I should be going now-"

"Lockwood." He slowly turned around, taking his hand off of the doorknob, and stared at the floor.

"I... I didn't mind it."

"What?"

"I'm not saying it again, it's embarrassing."

"No, wait... you like me?"

"Of course I do, you idiot!"

"I... uh- wow." He scratched the back of his head, continuing to stare at the floor.

"Look at me," her sweet voice called from in front of him.

With what seemed like all of his strength, Lockwood dragged his hazel eyes up to lock with hers.

"Say that you love me."

"..."

"Lockwood!" She playfully hit his chest, earning a chuckle from the male.

"I love you, Luce."

"And I you."

She planted a chaste kiss on his lips. "We probably should be getting to bed. Goodnight, Lockwood."
