Imagine your playing SoftBall. Your the first batter for your team and everyone is cheering you on. The other team lines up on the field and the bowler gets ready to throw the ball at you. All of a sudden everything becomes dark and scary and the ball looks like a swirling weight of emotions being prepared to only then be thrown at you. You see regret, sadness, distrust, self consciousness, hate and doubt. You want to hit these away. You have to hit them away.
The bowler throws the ball, it is coming right at you and you swing with all your might and hit it. When you do you feel regret lifting off your shoulders. You reach first base and the fielders still don't have the ball. When you pass first base you leave behind the sadness of the past. Second base is in your reach and as you get there and as you pass it you feel yourself gaining trust in yourself and the people closest to you. Third base is then in grasp and when you reach it you feel yourself gaining confidence and you find yourself for who you truly are. You begin to love yourself for you. Finally you see home base and you run as fast as you can to reach it. You hear the fielders yelling out behind you but you block them out and run. When you reach home base you find yourself loving and knowing who you are. You find your true self.
Whenever someone is in pain or doubt of themselves we need to be reassuring and just be there for them in general. We can't always fix them immediately. They might take three balls to get hit the home run or it might only take them one. All we need to do is be the supportive team members back on the bench who will stick by the batter no matter what gets thrown at them.
