It was 10 AM sharp and I was currently sitting on the staircase outside the front door with a lot of huge bags scattered across the ground in front of me. My body was drowing in the over-sized grey hoodie I was wearing that I stole from my dad's closet. A navy pickup truck pulled up into my driveway and a rather sleepy Harry came out. The back of his truck was filled with bottles that contained gallons of water and several camping stuff.
"Didn't get enough sleep?" I laughed as I saw his sleepy expression. His messy curls were covered by a beanie and he was wearing brown jacket along with a pair black skinny jeans.
"Don't even talk about it," he groaned and pulled the hood over his beanie. "Niall, came by my place at seven to load the truck with our necessities."
He helped me carry my stuff up to his trunk and the front door opened. My mother came out with a glass of smoothie in her hand and a big smile on her face. "Have fun, Natalie!"
"Thanks mom."
"And also don't share a sleeping bag with anyone if you don't wanna end up like you know," she exchanged looks between Harry and I and rubbed her pregnant belly. "Me."
I could see Harry from the corner of my eye that he was trying to keep a laugh in. "Oh my god mom!" I said embarrassed with flushed cheeks.
"I'm just messing with you, have fun!" She said cheerily and walked over to me to give me a hug. "Call me if you need anything," she said before disappearing inside again.
As soon as she went inside, a laugh escaped from Harry's mouth. "Shut up," I muttered, playfully pushing him away. "Wait here, I forgot the flashlights!"
I ran back into the garage and looked through multiple drawers to find the flashlights. I finally found them in a box with the twins' baseball bats. At the go, I grabbed them with me as well. You could never know if you ran into some ghosts at a haunted asylum and needed self defense.
Harry looked at me with a confused look. "Baseball bats? To be honest, you didn't strike me as a baseball kind of girl."
"Funny," I fake laughed. "I think I would feel a little safer if we had something to use to defend ourselves just in case we ran into a vengeful demon or something."
He chuckled at my answer. We got into the car and Harry started to drive out on the road. "Are you ready?"
"No, not really," I laughed, my tone was nervous and I think he noticed it.
"Me neither," he breathed out and leant back in his seat.
A silence fell upon us. Besides this dare, we didn't really have anything to talk about. He was known as the popular captain of the basketball team and I was Natalie. I wasn't the person who wouldn't classify herself as popular or unpopular, I was just there and that was more than okay for me. His hand reached for the radio and turned it on. A country song started to play as we both lightly chuckled. Country wasn't really what any of us usually listened to.
His soft gaze was focused on the long road in front of us. I watched how his jaw moved whenever he parted his lips. He didn't seem nervous at all -- I on the other hand was more nervous as I had ever been. My palms were sweating and I could feel my heartbeat raise with every mile we got closer. I leaned my head back on the seat and stared out on the trees we quickly passed by. His long fingers tapped on the steering wheel along to the beat on the radio as he quietly hummed along to it.
We had been driving in a path into the woods for about half an hour now and I knew that we were almost there. I had never been there before, so I didn't know what to expect. The article I have read was still lingering in the back of my head.
