By the time the plane had touched down everyone was calm and the tension was gone from the air. Harry had been hit on by pretty much every air hostess that served on the plane - he did have a fantastic jawline - and the others busied themselves with their own lives. The two lovers had stayed asleep on the bed the entire time and only awoke when Emmi had the good grace to shake them.
"So, where do we go?" Sophie asked, bouncing up and down. There was little luggage with them, the only things being weapons, electronics and, in Harry's case, books. Loki had compelled the airport staff to let the sharp, threatening objects through and had done the same to customs officials at border protection. The large group had made their way out onto the American streets and were stood around, looking a little bit lost.
"Loki?" Georgina prompted. "Where are the things going to attack first?"
"The highest building," Loki said.
"The Empire State Building," Brian said immediately. "Biggest skyscraper in the world."
"Very pointy," Rebecca said.
"They haven't made anything bigger?" Delta said, wrinkling up her nose.
"Not yet," Harry said. He and Brian appeared to be competing for head brainbox.
"Anything taller might overbalance without the right supporting structure," Max said. For someone with purple hair and a permanent cheeky grin he was surprisingly intelligent, coming up with logical answers to questions posed by the other children when they didn't want to bother the adults.
"Is that why tall people fall over so much?" Tobi questioned.
"I don't fall over," Loki frowned. "And I am tall for your Midgardian height."
"I'm short," Brian sighed.
"We'll push you down a drain then," Delta suggested.
"No!" Angel cried. "We can't do that to poor Brian." She smiled at him and batted her eyelashes.
"Has anyone told her that Brian's gay?" Delta said in a stage whisper, speaking from behind her hand. There was laughter from the group while Angel fumed silently, too well-behaved to hit her sister around the head.
"The second I can leave you two behind I will," Harry murmured, pinching the bridge of his nose tiredly. He did that quite a lot, an instinctive reaction to stress.
"Doesn't Omey live in America?" Angel said, trying to take over the situation again.
"Omega," Delta and Harry said in unison.
"He hates you calling him Omey," Harry added.
"It's a cute pet name," Angel pouted.
"But he's a human, not a pet," Delta said.
"Can you lot have a family fight somewhere else?" Georgina interrupted. "I don't know who Omega is but I'm assuming he's related to you all. In the meantime, you can all shut up or go and find him to help us."
"I know the way," Harry said.
"Lead on," Georgina said. Harry nodded and turned on his heel, walking instead of hailing a yellow taxi. His reply, when asked why, was as follows:
"Taxi drivers scam you over here and I'd rather keep my kidneys."
The congregation followed the young man down the streets, turning the corners and crossing at the lights. There was an occasion where Brian nearly got hit by a speeding taxi but he snarled at the driver and the vehicle hurriedly braked. Tobi did also twist his ankle tripping over his untied shoelaces but Cleo was on hand to fix that.
