"A-choo!"

"Geez, you alright?" Kara asked.

"Yeah, just allergies," I replied, wiping my nose with a Kleenex. It was fall, the time of year my days were filled with watery eyes and runny noses. You see, any sort of furry creature brings out my allergies. The dry air doesn't help.

"Here, have another Kleenex, Bridget," Kara said, keeping out of sneezing range. I took it graciously, throwing the old one in a trash can.

"Sniff... So, its Halloween tonight. You know what you're wearing?" I asked.

"Hmm I think I'm going as a zombie. Well, zombie princess," she told me.

I nod, "Uh huh. I'm going to be Link. From Zelda. The game. Yeah."

"You do realize only a few people will know who that is right? Plus, he's a dude."

"So? It's called gender bent."

Kara stood up, grabbing her bag, "Whatever. Nerd," and flashed me a smile before heading out the door. I shook my head, laughing quietly.

Our plan was to meet up by the park at sunset. We're going to do some trick or treating before walking to a party. Fun stuff, hanging with older kids. Plus, our parents didn't give us a curfew!

I sat on a swing, slowly pushing it back and forth. It was about 15 minutes after the sun went down, and still no word from Kara. I pulled out my phone and called her.

"Yo! Where you at?" I asked, irritated.

Kara replied, "Oh I forgot to tell you! My boyfriend picked me up. We're already at the party." You could hear loud music and shouting in the background. A big crash told me someone already broke something.

"Grr! You serious?!"

"....Yeah. Just walk over here without me."

I hung up on her. I didn't feel like dealing with Kara. It wouldn't be fun to go to strangers' houses and ask for candy by myself. I stood up, dusting off my Link costume.

As I walked, a light breeze picked up. The wind stirred up some leaves, whipping them into swirls. I shivered from the sudden cold, pulling my costume a little closer to me.

The stars were just starting to come out. A full moon showed its face every few minutes, covered by clouds.

"Brrr.... why'd Kara have to be a turd and leave me?" I mumbled to myself, slowly walking down a street. One single light pole flickered ahead.

"Achoo!" I sneezed suddenly. "Sniff- Huh. I only sneeze around animals."

"Mouwww," a cat screeched behind me. I quickened my pace, not wanting to come across a cat. Especially on Halloween, being unlucky and all.

A dark shape walked out in front of Bridget, forcing her to crash to a halt. The small creature stopped and turned to face her. It was a small cat, black with bright green eyes.

"Uhh... shoo kitty k-kitty..." I stuttered. The cat sat down, staring at her, it's eyes getting brighter. I started to back pedal, sneezing again.

"Ack-choo! ...leave me alone kitty!"

The black cat stood up, raising its hackles. "Hisssss..."

"Well cra-"
